That looks great! I couldn't do it with my car. It scrapes too much. I'd be afraid of having the paint flake off.

It doesnt show up as much on a black FD, but looks good nonetheless. I had my old R1 lip painted to match silver. Didn't have any problems with it.

Look closely: Can you see the 3M paint protection film, on everything from lip to 6inches up the hood? I have the newest version of the protective film as the area installer had permission from 3M to try it on 2 cars, both black. It won't be available untill next year. I'll post a close up of the film's edge soon...

Really, Even when you scraped, say going up a curb?

I might be temped to paint mine along with the new Feed Sideskirts that I bought off Chuck at RE.

VERY nice Mike! I love the bling of it, but was always worried of the paint chipping. So I'd tire shine the lip, and it looked all bright, almost as if it was painted, but no worries about paint chipping and scratching.

Is the 3M film up to the begining of the vent (the highest point), and extends to the right, maybe an inch above the headlight, down to around the fender? Not sure if that's just glare or barely being able to see the film.

I've looked into the 3M film before, but I got quoted some $1200 to do it, which is absolutely rediculous. Here's the thread: https://www.rx7club.com/interior-exterior-audio-26/can-you-get-custom-bra-made-c-west-front-end-308769/

Basically, for me, the film would have to consist of multiple pieces (because the C-West front bumper is complex, w/ all those vents etc), and it would have to extend up to the beginning of the hood scoop, since that's the highest point of the front. Love the idea, but for $1200, I can get the front bumper repainted 4 times... I have considered 3Ming the entire CF hood though.

I'm interested in the film. Were they able to do it in one piece? How man seams? And could they do a 99 spec front?

The film application is expensive but in my opinion wothwhile. I had a 2002 yellow SE Miata with 3M film and after 2 years, not a single chip up front. It costs as much as a bumper repaint but you can't think of it that way. Are you gonna get your bumper repainted every week?

When I can, I'll post photos of the film, up close.

My RX-7 objective; Enhance and appreciate the design. This is my 2nd FD so I've been interested in these cars since seeing one for the first time in August 1992. I bought my 1st one in Spring of 1993. I'm working my way slowly thru this car to get it just right, no hurry, no endpoint.

Mike, that's completely understandable. But if I did the 3M film, I'd wanna go ALL out. Entire front bumper, 99spec lights, hood up to the beginning of the vent (highest point) if not the entire hood (since mine's CF), then down on the sides for the front portion of the fender. All the wheel wells, and the sideview mirrors. That can get VERY expensive. Prohibitively so. But if I could get a decent price on it, I would very much consider it.

You said it costs as much as a bumper repaint. I get my bumpers stripped and repainted for $200. Lets say $300. I'm saying I was quoted $1200! I'm sure the lack of paint chips would leave you with incredible peace of mind, but DAMN, they better have a payment plan or something lol.

What's this about a new film you're talking about? Have any info on it, or is it not being advertised yet?

~Ramy

PS: I'd love to check out the car and the film in person sometime... (and I still have yet to meet you in person)

Yeah, I've NEVER scraped the lip before. My car's lowered on Eibach springs too. But I've never gone UP a curb before. I put a few layers of clear over it to protect it, and it held up pretty well.
