Or it was simply changed out along the way. I added cruise to my R1 by simply plugging in the components. I assume the seats all would be mounted the same as well.

.....and all the little tan trim pieces too? I'd say it's more likely he's mistaken about his car being an R-1, wouldn't you?

It's definitely a mystery....but no.
He does have dual oil coolers, and the VIN apparently is coming back as an R1 from MAZDA. So, who's to argue?

your tan interior must not be original. R1's only came with black cloth.

True, but they have manufacturing records corresponding to VIN numbers. There is nothing in the VIN itself that tells what package the car is.

I believe Mazda did make a number of one-off models. I have heard of R1's from the factory with sunroofs. So, perhaps the tan seats are original equipment. The question is why??

A sun roof can be installed a the dealership. My 94' has a glass roof when it should be steel. Mazda list it as a 1994 RX-7 TOUR. With all the aftermaket stuff out there I don't think it matters any more.

'94 Tourings came with a glass sunroof. Count yourself among the lucky ones. There are people out there who would trade their mothers to get their hands on one of those.

OK, then I take it back. It appears you may have an R-1 into which someone switched a tan Touring interior. It's odd though, because it's much more common for people with tan interiors to switch them to black. People have gone so far to dye and paint their tan interiors in the darker color. It might be something other than a matter of preference too. I know someone who just bought an F-150 that had been stolen and stripped and consequently had a new interior.

No they cannot. The sunroof on FDs is a factory install. 94 Tourings (as opposed to later PEGs) came with glass sunroofs instead of steel.

If you ever see a non-factory sunroof job on an Fd, it is NOT a pretty sight...

Let me clarify this before I see posts from people who say they have a '94 with a steel sunroof.

-'93 Touring....steel sunroof.

-'94 Touring....dark glass moonroof.
-'94 Popular Equipment Group......steel sunroof.

-'95 Popular Equipment Package....steel runroof.

There are some originally steel sunroof people running around out there who got their hands on a glass moonroof from a junkyard or elsewhere and made the substitution.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the complete rundown on FD sunroofs.
