Driving my car in the summer heat (like WA gets hot, right?) @ ~90 degrees ambient, my temps, in-city, are about 190 degrees. Cruising, they sit at about 180 or so, pushing the car in the heat, and they are still at around 190-200. If they got over 210, Id shut it down. Thats just me though.

When I lioved in South Carolina, I was running at 190-200 with a FMIC and a Fluidyne. I get up to 220+ I'd shut her down, but I only got her that high when I was in a traffic jam. Just keep your parking lights on to help keep temps down and get a Miata fan switch.

Here In Florida in traffic I see 96C or 204F pretty often. On the highway it drops to 90C.

However last Thursday I overheated for no apparent reason massive loss of coolant from the overflow. The PFC read 122C or around 250F costed off the road and got it shut down with hood up with 30 seconds. While I waited for a tow which took about 4 hours I topped it off and restarted the car. The system pressurized but temp started heading straight up. The idle was good and exhaust was clean and smelled normal. I should find out in a few days what went wrong and if it was terminal.

This whole event took less than 15 second under normal driving conditions to overheating. So be careful.

If the motor is gone I will most likely part it out the rotary mods to raise funds for a V8 conversion. Sorry guys I've just about had it with this BS, while I have the funds I have also lost patients with troublesome power plant.

Apologies for the slight Hijack, good luck with the car.

Stock radiator and IC right now, Ill see 90C on a hot day of cruising (Its been mid 90s here lately), and in traffic it can creep to about 93 when the fans come on...with the fan switch mod it never goes above that. Freeway cruising its around 85C and temps can go really low if Im running the A/C. FYI make sure the parking lights actually trip your fans, they dont trip mine, nor does fanspeed 3. Then again putting my car in first when starting dosent stop the AWS from comming on, it must be possesed.

The stock fans don't even come on until 221 F. Most of us feel that's too hot, especially considering the margin of safety is small at that point. The stock PFC setting is to turn the fans on at 100C (212F). To me, good safe temps are anything under 105C (220 F).

Unless you are trying to run the A/C full blast in stop-and-go traffic in 100+ weather, you should never exceed the mid 220s.
Also found this during a search. It's old, but IMO, still accurate.
