The ECU is located under a plastic kick panel on the right side of the foot well. There are four 10mm phillips head screws holding the mounting bracket in place, but access is limited. You'll need either a medium-sized "shorty" phillips head screwdriver, or a 1/4-inch drive phillips head socket to access them.

There are three main connectors to the ECU; removing them requires pressing the release latch and wriggling the connector out slowly, which can be tricky and requires patience.

To get it out, remove the door sill trim (it says RX-7 on it), then remove one clip thing (use your fingernail or a knife to raise the middle) and then the plastic panel can be pulled out and toward the back of the car to remove it. Then there are some 10mm hex head screws (aka bolts) holding the ECU in place. There are 4 clips on the ECU harness. You push in a clip (with your thumb) to release the connector. Wiggle them loose if they are stuck.
