Hi, I've spent a lot of time looking into 3rd gen RX7's and I'm obviously impressed. My friend has an 86' rx7 that I could buy, but I'm willing to spend the extra money to buy the 3rd gen. I was just wondering what kind of maintainence is needed to keep the car running cool and smooth. I've read and heard that rotary's are tempermental and hard to maintain. I could use any information at all that you have as an rx7 owner. I've never owned a mazda, or driven/worked on a rotary but this is something i'm very interested in.

so, in short.. i'd just like to know about the general maintainence of rx7's/rotary engines.. how to keep the car in top running/performing shape. i'm going to be spending a lot of money on the car so i want to make sure i'm doing everything the way i should. thanks

I don't think you need to be a rotary-fanatic to own a 3rd Gen, although it usually helps. The important thing to remember is that the 1993-1995 RX-7 is a sports car, and some of the design compromises make it similar to dedicated race cars. It needs plenty of maintenance.

Like other rear-wheel-drive sports cars, the FD RX-7 is powerful and agile. This is good if you know what you're doing, but can be dangerous if you don't already have racetrack driving experience.

Set aside 3,000 / year just on maintenance and you should be fine...$1000 for all the little things that may pop up and $2000 for the eventual rebuild you will do... LOL
