Questions
Just found this forum. Have had a 3rd gen for a few years now. I had the engine and turbos replaced by the dealership about 15k miles ago and just took the car in for service. I was very surprised when they told me that my second rotor was running low compression and that the engine should be replaced. The car started running rough and hesitating during acceleration which is why I took it in. I have a list below.
Rough idle
Inconsistent acceleration
Flutter during acceleration
Strong raw gas smell
Anyone have any ideas about this one?

Yea, Dave's right. First things first. The stealership is full of idiots. Only a handful of stealerships in the country actually have factory certified rotary mechanics. Stick w/ speciality shops. Heck, I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if it turned out that your engine and turbos weren't blown the first time they told you to replace 'em... Search a bit on the forum for the horror stories if you'd like to see for your own self.
Also, it's a fact that Mazda ended up buying back a lot of FDs as "lemons" because the mechanics didn't know what on earth they were doing. Misdiagnosing boost leaks as blown turbos, popped off MAP sensor hoses as blown engines, etc etc. That's what got rotaries such a bad rep so early on (along w/ a precat that clogged in no time), and that's what prompted Mazda to pull a bunch of it's mechanics and certify them to work on rotaries, and on the 3rd gen in specific. Ao again by all means, stay AWAY from the stealership, and take the car to a rotary specialist in your area. Send a private message (aka PM) to Paul (Rotorbrain) by clicking here: https://www.rx7club.com/private.php?...m&userid=12040, tell him Ramy (me) told you he can help you out, and if he's local, he may even be able to lend a hand. If not, he'll at least be able to direct you to the best local 3rd gen shop to go to.
Also, please note that many times, rotary shops that specialize in 1st and 2nd gen RX-7s may not be qualified or skilled in 3rd gen RX-7s...so always keep in mind and keep your inquiries 3rd gen specific.
