Question to tall 3rd gen owners
I have had a good fit in the first gens and a questionable one in the FC's. I come forth from the second gen lairs to ask insight to the mighty 3rd geners. I stand at a height of 6 feet, 5 inches......Mostly leg. well I love my Turbo II, I have to slide the seat as far back as possible and recline it as far as the cargo bins allow to sit in somewhat comfort. It's a blast and but adding a helmet sucks. I'd like to see what the taller owners have to say.
Would you recommend I buy a FD?

I'm 6'4 and fit well without a helmet in my Touring. My seat isnt all the way back either but like James Paventi, I can also tell when I need a haircut. The stock seats will need to go in favor of sidemount seats if you want to fit comfortably with a helmet. I barely fit with one in mine with stock seats but need to adjust my seating position to do so. In my personal opinion, my FD is more comfortable to sit in than my FCs were but your best bet is to sit in one and see for yourself.

I am less than 6' and have a hard time with a helmet in my touring, but I can make it recline enough for a short time on the track.
Look for a non-sunroof car for an extra inch of headroom!

This has been covered pretty well in the past, do a little searching for more opinions.
I'm 6'6", mainly leg (36" inseam). A few tidbits -
- Get a car without a sunroof. It really takes a lot of the headroom away. I can fit in a car with a sunroof, but it's tight.
- Base or R1 seats give more room than the leather seats. Not sure why, but there you go.
- Aftermarket steering wheel makes a HUGE difference in leg room. The stock steering wheel is boat-tiller big and it's low. A D-shaped aftermarket wheel and a steering wheel spacer is night and day.
- Adjusting the clutch pedal so you take some of the dead play out of it helps with legroom.
- I have not been in my car with a helmet, but I imagine I'd have to lean the seat back to do so.
I'm surprised you fit in 1st gens well, my knee would get trapped between the door panel and the steering wheel in a 1st gen. I've owned tons of FC's, fit fine in them.

I'm only 5'10-11", 33" inseam, 160 lb.
Driver's seat bottom had ~1 1/2" of foam taken out for helmet clearance by builder/P.O. (he's ~6'1"-6'2" I think?).
Car is a '94 base, no sunroof.
I end up running with a click more seatback recline than I'd like, and with the seat a click forward of where I'd like it to give the correct arm reach to the wheel. And my helmet still makes contact with the headliner sometimes (on the left side near the door opening).
The FD is definitely not a car for helmeted tall people!

My head was hitting the roof of my 94 Touring when i first got it. I also happen to have an FC track car with old school Bride Brix in them on Bride FC rails. http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_...0035_large.jpg
When I finished my engine install in the FD, I ordered a set of FD seat rails from Japan and mounted the Brix to them. The only modification needed was to remove the triangular seat angle adjusters and cut about 1/2 an inch of the adjusting rod that runs through the seat back. I then set my seat position once (the seat backing just pulls out and allows me to turn the rod to adjust) and now I can wear a helmet in the car and still not hit the sunroof !!!

6'1, mostly legs though. I'll say this. There is leg room, but the clutch is very long, so get ready to move your entire leg back and forth every time you shift. Its a nice work out I guess....

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
An aftermarket wheel and quick release hub is a life saver for this problem. I can hop in and out with ease now compared to when my car had the stock wheel.
