Question on rx7 and rx8 coil setup to the big dawgs

Rx7 coil set up is 3 outputs to ignitor
2 wires for both trailing coils
1 for leading coil running waisted spark is this correct ?

Rx8 runs single coil on plug but are the leading waisted spark ?

If i wanted to run 4 coils on rx7 would i just bridge the leading into the 4th coil ?

My main question can the car run on just trailing coils ?

To run 4 coils properly, you would need an ecu that has 4 ignition ouputs. The engine would run very poorly on just trailing due to the enlongated combustion chamber.

the FC and FD run a wasted spark on the leadings, and individual outputs for the trailings. due to the design of the engine waste spark cannot be done on the trailing side, as the wasted spark would fire on the other rotors intake stroke. the FC and FD thus have three ignition outputs from the ecu

the Rx8 has individual outputs for each plug. the leading are not wasted spark. the Rx8 has 4 ignition outputs from the ecu

if you wanted to use 4 coils on an FC/FD ecu, you can just use the leading output and split it into two ignitors.

the car should run on the trailing only, but not well, try it

The issue with wastespark is you end up not being able to charge the coils as long since they are firing twice as much. Depending on your dwell settings you can overheat the coils. Especially if you are running higher than stock RPM redline.

Exactly.

Running on trailing alone will cause a huge power loss and high egts. The car will still run though.

If you want to run direct fire you are going to have to go with something like a Haltech of Adaptonic ecu with 4 ignition outputs and a IGN-1A ignition coil setup. A Power FC cannot do direct fire.
