Question RE: Emissions Testing
I'm in Houston, TX. Just need help with info on passing emissions and other questions.
I have the following that may affect emissions Front Mount Greddy intercooler, stock turbos at 15psi, 1330 cc secondary injectors, full turbo back exhaust, no cats, PFC computer, Greddy Boost Controller, the a/f ratio is 10.9, JIC Exhaust, pulleys. Dynoed at 315hp at the rear wheels, I'm guessing 400hp at the crank with a 20% drivetrain loss. I don't have air pump hooked up.
I have a stock exhaust system that I can unbolt from my other RX7. If I just hook up the main cat, to the JIC catback will I pass? Is the air pump hard to put back on if necessary?
Thanks in advance!

There's a nice thread about this in the West forum. I'm not sure how similar Texas laws are, but California's are reputed to be pretty tough.

i live in cali..
and i have a bonestock honda civic,
and it failed...
I dont know how the hell any rx7 is going to pass nowadays,
basically cali was always kinda gnarly on smog,
but they upped the ante,
now you do the test on a frickin dyno(no you cant check your hp, hehe) and they dont just check idle, they check at 15mph and 25mph,
you'd be hard pressed to find a shady smog tech nowadays too, used to be ez, but now they'd have to jump thru more hoops to make it happen.
in my opinion, everyone should have a new or really good condition catalytic converter on hand(well 2 in the case of rx7's i suppose) just usem when you go for the smog.

My FD passed with a catback exhaust. The rest of my car is stock. As for the shady smog tech...the smog machines are now networked so they can easily fake the visual but the actual test is kind of hard since the machine reports the results to a central computer.
It shouldn't be too hard to pass smog in whatever state as long as you have a properly functioning air pump, a good condition cat and a smooth running engine. If you're running a PFC/other aftermarket ECU tune a smog map so you run as lean as possible at whatever your test is at...ie in CA at idle and 25 mph in first gear.
