wait so there were TWO rebuilts??? One at 70K and one 3K later? Or did you mean to say 70K on chassis, 3K on rebuilt motor? If the condition is good, no accidents, clean interior, engine rebuilt and install was done with good quality from a reputable shop, car tracks straight, paint good, 99 spec conversion looks good, I wouldn't be surprised if someone would pay 20K for the car

WTF makes you think 94+ qualifies a $1k price difference?

I'd say $16-$18k max for the car unless it has some more mods.

Ummm....Try looking at market prices...Even the retards at NADA give it nearly a $1500 difference.

Do you need a lesson in basic economics?
There are tons of 93s out there and not alot of 94s and almost no 95s.

In addition to production numbers....no issues with 5th gear synchro, no fragile finish on the interior plastic, better original paint and (I think) R134 AC system.

actually the 5th gear syncro is the same, the interior plastic is the same with a different texture. R134a system didn't come out until 95.

There are a number of small details on 94s (and a few more on a 95) that make them a little nicer. None of them make the engine last longer though.

Best shopping at this point is to buy the nicest car you can find regardless of the year.

IIRC, Mazda upgraded the shift-select spindle, and supposedly the synchro itself, but I'd stand corrected. In any event, I don't recall alot of 94 and newer owners mentioning alot of the problems that we had. And yes, the plastic pieces are the same, in that they will interchange, but I believe that's why MAZDA changed the texture, because while the smooth 'satin' finish looked nicer, it scratched if you looked at it wrong. And you better than most should appreciate the crappy, brittle paint they had, or the nearly as nasty MAZDA dealership refinish.
I agree though that given the over-all age of the cars, go for the nicest. That's what I tried to do.
