How long does it take to install some ground wires?

Is it hard work to put on a set?

Has anyone tried these kits from ebay?

I think im getting elect probs so i should install one of these what do you guys think?

 

I've never done it myself, but from what I can gather it's a fairly straighforward job to do. Depending on how good of a job you want to do installing them, it would probably be anywhere from 4-8 hrs. By how good of a job I mean if you clean off all the contact patches and scrub them down to bare metal or not.

What kind of electrical problems are you having that led you to believe it was a grounding issue?

 

I suggest you go the nearest local electronics store (not BestBuy - I mean like the old school TV/stereo/repair place.) I bought a bunch of amp wires with connectors on them for $2 each. Save the hassle of placing a bid.

Make your own kit. Go to Home Depot and get 10 feet of 12 guage (I think that's what I used) and some crimp ends. The whole thing will be under 15 bucks. This was the easiest (and cheapest) mod that I have done.

 

I would recomend at least 8 guage, but 4 guage would be even better.

 

all you really need is:
first a ground wire to the fire wall to your UIM.
then, a ground to negative battery to a side of the car.

 

I just made my own one wire where the stock one was (firewall to the surge tank) and then the firewall to the alternator bolt, works good and I think it was $20 since that type of stuff is expensive here. I did it like this since my battery is in the truck, no problems before except a little studder at or around 3k, and this cleared that up, but no HP gains IMHO

 

Found this ages ago, and kept a copy.

yeah just make your own , I bought a generic battery connector some 4 gauge wire and a bunch of ring terminals and jagged washers and went nuts heehe

 

It doesn't matter. There's not enough current flowing anywhere in that engine bay to require 4 ga.

You are probably right, 4 might be overkill, but notice that I said 8 will work but 4 would be even better. If you are going to go to all the trouble to do it, why not do it to give you the best results possible.

 

This doesn't have to be a huge project. Install 3 or 4 easy to access wires and see if it clears up your problem. I ran one from the neg battery terminal to the wheel well. Another from the elbow/TB bolt to the firewall. And another from the crossover tube mount to the fender well onthe passenger side. All easy to get to. Bought the stuff at home depot for less than $10, and I have some wire left over if I needed to do more (which I don't).

where exactly do the gorund the uim ones too, so instead of spending 10- 20 dollars should i just buy that set from ebay or what?

 

Actually there is a lot of current flowing. The alternator is grounded to the engine. All current it generates flows through whatever grounds the engine. Just the headlamps alone draw 14 Amps.

 

This really is pretty simple. Someone even posted a diagram for you. Maybe you should take a look at it. If you can't figure it out, there are several rotary shops in So. Ca. that would be glad to take your money to install a few wires.

 

That's a good point. However, one can rule out any wires larger than the main lead to the alternator.
