Question on the Bathurst model FD?
I'm reading the Brian Long book on the RX-7. It mentions one thing that really caught my eye and has me questioning things.
Under a photo on page 157 Long writes:
".....Incidentally, the Type RB and RB 'Bathurst' lost their rear strut bars at this time, while the Touring X grade came with a rear brace only: the Type RS and RZ had tower bars at both front and rear."
Is that true, did some of these Bathurst models come without rear strut bars?
Long seems to be referring to 1996 cars. Sounds like an odd thing to do, and it's the first I've heard of it. I'd guess it was an attempt to free up some luggage space. But you don't get that much extra space, and it has to hurt chassis rigidity.
So, can anyone familiar with JDM cars, or maybe someone in Australia or NZ confirm this, or know any more about it?
