question on autos
question: i'm assuming it's pretty hard to convert an auto to a manual; switching tranny; clutch; and parts of dash? if i got an auto for a lower price, would it be worth it? eh- i'm never gunna find a stock rx-7 for 9k..mmmmmm

There literally are dozens of threads about this, search around a bit and you will find all sorts of debate on this subject....lol!
Some "purists" consider it blasphemy that Mazda even put an automatic in these FD cars. And even I admit that there are some disadvantages to this over the manual tranny car.
But in the end, it comes down to what really matters to YOU, not what anyone else thinks.
I can guarantee you that if you took a ride in MY car, you would be going, "Holy ******' ****!" and wouldn't mind owning it for a minute. And often times it is easier to find a car in superior condition when it IS an automatic, as a lot of the 5 speed cars you will find are just trashed, you'd spend thousands of dollars just making the interior and exterior look presentable.
It basically comes down to this: If you want to make BIG horsepower and modify the hell out of your car, then the automatic isn't for you, there are too many limitations in aftermarket fuel computers, etc. If you want to track the car, then the automatic isn't really for you.
But if you just want a good looking car that will give you great service, awesome performance, and turn heads everywhere you go, then you should consider purchasing the automatic car. If you buy the auto and plan to convert it....I would say wait and get a manual. Yes, you can convert but it IS a pain and very expensive to do so, to make it really right.

eh, and here i thought i was experienced with forums. it crossed my mind about the search functions...
again, i apologize.
anyway, i looked up the kelly blue book area for a stock '93 rx-7 and it listed it at $12,995 with 1000 miles on it.
It's $11,870 with the typical 96kmiles...
mmmm

1. KBB means nothing in the world of FDs.
2. There are many full complete write-ups, includings costs -- see the FAQ thread.
3. You can't afford an FD if you are so budget limited. Buying an FD is only PART of the cost of actually owning and operating one, and sometimes not even the majority of cost....
