Question about shifting
Question about shifting
just a simple question does anybody elses rx7 twin turbo hard to put into every gear....even bangs sometimes......but the guy sayed the clutch is pretty new
That banging sound doesn't seem right.
Yeah, the shift on the FD isn't as smooth as on my last car, but you shouldn't really hear any banging.
Is it a banging or grinding? It is possible that some of the synchros have gone. Usually, the 5th gear synchro is the first to go - have you gotten into this gear yet?
If you are looking to buy this car (not sure) - make sure you take it to an established ROTARY SPECIALIST for an engine / turbo / transmission / brake check.
Bang is probably Bad. But be more detailed in your description and we can help more.

Do you mean a loud VERY bassy clunk sound from the rear of the car when shifting sometimes?
I let my father drive it once and it clunked the whole time. As if he was shifting physically too hard. I didn't get it. And sometimes it will do that when I shift from neutral to 1st. Not all the time though.

like soft butter...
I have 2, the one that is bone stock with 15K miles shifts very easy and smooth like cutting soft butter. my modded one with 45K miles does not shift as smooth untill the tranny warms up(several miles of driving) It can be a small effort to shift into any gear after cold starting once the car gets moving. I bought some redline fluids and will change out the gearbox fluid in a couple weeks, This should smooth things out.
Banging is never good unless your doing it with the passenger seat reclined.

Do you have a stock shifter or a aftermarket short throw? Where does the bang come from, front, rear, etc? My friends stock shifter feels like your shifting througn bubblegum and it's really hard to get into gear but my Pettit short throw falls right in every time except 5th is a little tricky because it's hard to tell the difference between 3rd and 5th sometimes. I hopw you have a grind instead of a bang. Cheaper to fix. Powershift, **** clutches, it's good for them!! Ha.
Do you have any mods right now? Go for a DP first. And get all the basic maintenance done, oil, plugs, wires, fluids, brakes, tires, and such. Then open the intake up and free the exhaust flow with a CB. Now you need an ECU to go further safer. A short shifter may help as well with some Redline Tranny fluid. Ooooh, and get some 13" 150 Gold spoke Daytons w/ spinners and Hydraulics. Actually you should get those first. I've also heard that the S2000 push start buttons add up to 75rwhp. That's a worthy start as well. Just kiddin'
It has been scientifically proven that adding stickers or decals that do not belong or have no affiliation with the car adds more than 100 hp at the wheels. For example, if you own a Toyota Rav 4 and you add a Ralliart sticker on it, it will top 200 hp at the wheels. The same goes when you put a Type R decal onto your FD

Sounds like a throwout bearing is bad... do you hear any rattling with the clutch in... or out might be the pilot bearing whatever it is its not normal.
