Question Question about downpipe & midpipe diameters

I've noticed that most downpipes are 3", but when it comes to midpipes, some are 3" and some are 2.75".

It seems to make sense to go with a 3" midpipe if you've got a 3" downpipe.

What is the inner-diameter on the midpipe you use?

(currently I have a Random Technology high-flow cat downpipe and a Pettit Racing high-flow main cat)

when you measure the diameter, are you talking about the inner dimeter (ID) or the outer diameter (OD)?

i was asking because i noticed on the recent clubrx.org article (see link below) he measured his mid-pipe to be 70mm ID and 76mm OD. (this converts to about 2.75" ID and 3" OD.
