Question Quarter mile and 0-60 times

Just curious about to put 5 grand into my rx-7 by a rotary performance shop. They said they've seen this setup Im doing produce 300rwhp, so I was just curious how much does 300rwhp produce as far as quarter mile times and 0-60 times, I've tried looking it up and have had no luck if anyone has a good idea or knows for sure please tell me, would like to find out if Im wasting 5 grand or not. Thanks guys.

Looking at a low 12 sec 1/4 with good driving. 0-60 should be around 4 secs.

W/ 300 rear wheel HP I don't know about 0-60 but as far as 1/4 mile you should be in the high 12's to low 13's. Keep in mind that the driver can make up to a full second difference. if you don't have much experience at the track, you could have 400rwhp and still only do 13's. Getting a good launch and power shifting consistantly is a tricky thing. Good luck!

What are you doing to your car for $5k?
Are you guaranteed 300wrhp on YOUR car with these mods?
What type of tires do you have?

Well it all involves opening up the exhaust system, an intake, fuel pump, boost controller, apex power fc with commander, and a Greddy stock mount intercooler, with the needed pipes. This is a rotary performance shop that only deals with rx-7's in texas, they said that this setup produce 300 rwhp, but I just wanted to check with everyone.

Properly tuned with those mods 300rwhp should be at 10-12psi. You could theoretically up the boost a bit since you've got fuel control and a more effecient intercooler, and again if properly tuned you might be able to pull up to about 350rwhp at 14-15psi. If you run that high of boost you might also want to upgrade your injectors, if you haven't already. Keep in mind though that running that high of boost on stock twins is pushing them pretty hard and may raise intake temps and reduce the life of your turbos...

well my rx-7 has 25k miles on a new engine and turbos so I think I may just try to stay with the 300rwhp if they are right, don't think I want to push it too hard, its my baby Thanks for your help guys I really appreciate it.

Unreliable measure

1/4 mi and 0-60 are very driver dependent.
Measure the 40-80 time in 3rd gear.
The procedure is:
1) Hold a steady 35 MPH in 3rd gear.
2) Floor the throttle and start the stopwatch as the speedo passes 40 MPH.
3) Stop watch as needle passes 80.
4) Compare to others on here.

Even a slight tire change will have little effect.

I would think a true 40-80 time would be starting *at* 40mph, then flooring the gas. Getting a head start and building up boost seems kinda like cheating to me.

Hey, It is 'cheating' compared to your suggestion.
But more important it makes everything more consistent.
It is hard to hold exactly 40, and floor it and start the watch at the same time
If you start at 35 , if you are accidentally at 34 or 36 it doesnt matter enough to affect the time.

CONSISTENCY is all that matters otherwise 1/4 mi times would be the best

I don't know about 40-80, but there's been a 40-70 thread running for some time.

New topic =new thread

You won't get much response for a question about prices when it is a thread about performance times.

I and a few others have done the 3rd gear test, but from 60 mph to 90 mph, starting at 50mph to get a sense of the car's topend. The readings for me were so consisent that I would see clear difference in measurements if I had a passenger or even dropped 1 psi in boost. A stock FD should see about 5 seconds in this test.

develop an "ultimate" idea on what you want to do with your FD. where exactly do you want your car to go with its performance, or looks.

for $5K you could have a killer suspension, and complete some reliability mods (like letting your fd breathe better and run cooler). and opt towards your power upgrades after you decide on where you really want to go with your ride.

just my .02

it all depends on what condition the car is in, and what you purchased the car with, it seems like you got a decent deal on the car if it is in good condition, seeing that you cant find many rx-7s with under 100k on them for less then $14000. I just bought a 3rd gen with lots of upgrades in great shape with a fresh engine, rebuilt tranny and new racing clutch for 14000 grand. Just curious, what is your car running now in 0-60, and 1/4 mile.
