Running too rich?

For some reason i think I am running too rich.. my FD is bascially stock however the gas smell is REALLY strong, by running too rich could it be causing my wierd idle (6-400 ), i know what FDs are suppose to run rich but i don't think they are suppose to make you like tear when get close to the exhaust pipe

First and foremost, any time you smell gas on an RX-7 you should make absolutely sure it's not the pulsation damper leaking. That will make a gas smell from under the manifold on top of the engine and is VERY dangerous! Many cars have burned up due to that part failing.

If it's not coming from there, but is an -exhaust- gas smell, then it could mean you are running rich.

Has the car always done this?
What mods do you have?
Is the MAP sensor hooked up right?
Does the car basically run OK or does it also run badly while driving?
Have you had a compression check done? (bad idle + gas smell can mean blown engine)

If you can answer those questions, it will give us more info to help you. If you have any questions about the terms I used, do a search on the forum with the seach button.

Regards,
Brian

the car is basically bone stock with a efini ypipe 54k

i really have no clue how to check if the map sensor is properly hooked up

the car seems to run ok while driving, last time i check i was vac'in 15psi and boosting normally

nope haven't had a compression test done yet.. i'm in the middle of the pacific ocean.. we lack rotary shops here
