Which standalone!?

Microtech LTX8, LTX12, or PFC? The microtech sounds GREAT over the PFC but i don't see any japanese tuners using them.

I can't really get a straight answers from the microtech nor apexi.which one is better (of course they need to support what they are making). So it comes down to the users' honest opinion.

Those of you who use PFC, would you change for a Microtech or stick with your good old PFC?

I never heard of the Microtech, but I have a Power FC and I think it's great. You can pretty much do anything with it.

 

power fc if your staying with the stock twins...

i would say go haltech if you plan on going with a single turbo

 

i've heard haltec only if its a nuts app. like 500whp or something... also, the pfc is supposedly really user friendly... also, there are so many maps you can download for the pfc that you just can't get for the haltec or the microtech or whatever... you should check the ECU section for more details

 

i use the power fc for my single turbo setup..as do most of the fd's with singles around here do. i liked it because it keeps the omp and there was alot of support for it. with a datalogic i believe the pfc is a great ecu

 

I have had the PFC for a couple of years now and am just getting into learning all the tuning tricks for it. Paired with the datalogit, it can be a very powerful tool.

I have not had any experience with the others save for seeing on other 7's. I think in the right hands, any ecu will do the job for you...like already stated, the more demanding the application, the more bells and whistles you'll need with your ecu.

 

IMO, get whatever the people local to you use alot. Why? So when/if you need help, you can get it.

Most of the time, if you have questions on this forum you'll most likely be waiting for a while to get an answer. That's not a bad thing, it's just the nature of getting "online help". It's MUCH better when you can just call a friend on the phone who knows what's going on and can help you much sooner.

In my area, pretty much all of the RX-7s (not limited to FD's) use the Haltech for programmable ECU's. That's what I would stick in my car if I wanted a programmable ECU because of the ease of getting help.

 

I second that. While the Microtech and Haltech sound really good, there just aren't enough people who know them yet. But there are people who can tune a PFC in their sleep (Like Steve Kan, for example [see my sig]). It might be slightly less capable, but you can still get more out of it because of the support network the PFC has in comparison to the others.

theres a different version for different years. 96 plus will not work with our cars.

 

Will the microtech's control accessories like the MOP or the airpump? Might be a good reason to go PFC since you're in California.

 

I would say go with the PFC. Specaly if your car is still going to be a street one and not one thats a full blown race car. From talking to Chris and Ari at rotarty performance the PFC is the way to go on a street car.

 

my car isn't a street car. interior is gone and only one seat...i'm planning on racing it.

Road Course or Drag?(That was off topic) If you can figure it out and master it, the Haltec/Mircotech is the better choice

 

Find out who you want to tune your car FIRST, then see what they would rather tune. You could go buy a $5k Motec, but if you dont know anyone to tune it youll be stuck with your car in the garage. Be tuner friendly, and just go with what your tuner is fimiliar with.

I have been running the haltech with my car for the past year of street driving/racing. It has a veay large support group for install, tuning ect. More so then the pfc i would think.

pfc seems to work pretty good for most mild cars. The main thing I don't like about the pfc is it retains the factory harness. Which makes it easy to install, but for anyone that has replaced there motor they know that 10 year old harness is pretty crispy and brittle.

the factory omp goes to 50% open when disconnected, and I do run premix which is not to big a deal. I guess you get use to it. Haltech can control the air pump. I passed texas dyno emmions a few months back with airpump, highflow cat, on my ported single turbo motor.

I think all 3 are good choices. pfc is prob the easiest to install. haltech has writeups on the installs and a good support group on yahoo groups. I don't know much about microtech but from others it looks good as well.

you can do like other people and fly steve kan to tune your car for whatever you get

Trying to remeber if it was the microtec or motec. Maybe a diff. one of those said is really more for the 20B set up. I heard Ari one time talking to some one about one being better for the 20B and the other for a moded 13B.

 

GarageBoy, do you race? do you have an FD? Anyhow....i see alot of japanese tuners using PFC so i'm going with this...Fujita uses PFC on there race car...

Yeah Haltec is another good one for race cars. Thats what Ari uses on his race car, so it must be good then.
