Q? regarding M2 or RE harness bar?

Are these basically a solid bar of aluminum drilled and tapped on the ends and then threaded with the stock attachments to the rear shock towers? Could I buy a piece of 6061 T6 aluminum then drill and tap the ends to fit the stock attachments and drill and tap the points for attaching the harnesses? Just trying to see if I can save a little money on the set up. $275 seems steep for a drilled and tapped piece of aluminum, but maybe I am wrong.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

NO.

The cross bar itself is basically a stout steel tube, but the real cost is in how that tube attaches to the rear strut tower tops. The stock bracket hardware is not used as it would be hopeless to expect those flimsy brackets to handle crash loads. New brackets are provided with the harness bar that are much stouter than stock.

No sense in having harnesses if they are not mounted to something solid.

Cool, thanks for the info. I guess I will have to order one along with my seats. That raises the price for my seating in the car, but better to be safe.
