TpCpLaYa, that pic has got to be photoshopped. Just look at the mazda lettering. And diablone, isn't thta the pic from 7-sins poster, photoshopped also?

Anyway, it comes down to this. Much easier to build a touring to R1 standards than to take an R1 and make it touring, for the simple fact of the sunroof. Targa on an FD, while sounding awesome, would not be worth the cost or effort. period. Yes, the key factor is structural integrity.

If you're hell bent to have a sunroof in this particular car, then screw the aftermarket install, and have the entire roof cut off and replaced with a sunroof equipped factory roof. Probably readily available from a Mazda specialty wrecking yard.
Not a suggested route, as you can see by the attached pictures, there is quite a bit of internal bracing in the roof section of the rx-7 in the areas where the roof would need to be cut for a proper install. Only the external parts would get welded, severely compromising the stability of the car.

With the roof off of the car, I can now stand inside of it on jackstands & make the center bend and bounce by jumping. Makes you wonder how much bracing they needed to do in the convertables.

Yes, I just made that one since the white one poasted earlier had been compressed inwards from the sides.
