Allright well I am looking into a few cars right now and was probably going to purchase by spring time. If I have about 21k can I get a good low mileage rx7 Turbo'd? Supra's cost are just so high they are selling cars with over 100k on them for a solid 20g's i dont know why people are still buying them. Forget that topic what do you think about the rx7 for that price?

 

You can get a nice low mileage RX-7 for around $20k. If you're not in a hurry you might find one for closer to $15k. Check the "newbie links" for tips on buying used RX-7's.

 

You can basically get any FD in good condition for under 21k. 7s may be cheaper to purchase, but much much more expensive to maintain and mod. If you plan to modify this car in any way and maintain it like it should be, in about little over a year you'll pay more than what you would have payed for a Supra. Supras are awesome cars no doubt but, 7s are whole lot much funner! Drive the two in good condtion and see what i'm talking about...Just read this thread.

You should take one for a test drive. I remember the first 7 I took for a test drive, it was a beautiful Red R1, I didnt end up getting the car at that time but after that i was hooked. Once you go 7 man you never go back. You can get a good low milage 7 for around 17k. That leaves you 4k for Mods.

 

In 93, I bought a new black Mazda MX3. They had a silver RX-7 with red interior in the showroom that I fell in love with. I said that I would have that one day.

Well, in 97 I was at the Mazda dealer in Tampa. Checking into getting larger rims for my 105k mile MX3.

I said that the only reason I would get rid of the MX3 was if I found a 3rd gen RX-7. The service manager said that they just took a 93 Vintage Red Base Model RX-7 in off a lease, but it wasn't detailed and prepped yet. I said that's okay, let me drive it.

I put $500 down on it and went home to tell my wife what I had just done.

The next day (Saturday) we went down to finish the deal, but the car wasn't there. I asked and they said some customer came in from over an hour and a half away wanting to buy it. I was standing on the curb when they pulled up in the RX-7. I asked the driver how he liked MY RX-7! He said, What do you mean? I then told him that I bought it the night before. Boy was he mad!

I paid $20k for it with 49k miles.

I have never regretted that spur of the moment decision. I have had over 20 cars in my lifetime, including a Triumph GT6 & a Triumph Spitfire, but never felt so much passion for a car as I do for the REX!

Good luck on your search for the right RX-7.
And be prepared to sink some dough into it for both reliability mods as well as performance mods.

wow what a story.. I am def. leaning towards the rx7 but the only thing that i am worried about is reliability because i really can't rely on my 3000gt. And I don't wana get rid of my car to get a car that is in the same boat but i think a low mileage 7 will be perfect, I just love them.

 

just gotta take care of the car and get fix anything that is wrong with it and it will be a great imho

Better off spending in the mid to hi $$ teens, and getting one with moderate miles on the car, and maybe either a fresh motor, turbos or cooling system. Getting my white 94 Touring is a dream come true. Truly love a first site when I drove 3 hours to test drive it. Read all you can about the Prerequisites of buying someones FD.

 

I never been stranded on the side o the road by a 7. Just make sure you do all the reliability mods and maintauin the car and it will be pretty damn reliable.

 

It’s nice to see you’re interested in a 3rd Gen RX7. However, there is much to learn before you can consider purchasing one. The rotary engine is complicated and requires a lot of attention and work to keep it running well… you will spend a good amount of money each year maintaining an FD (chassis code for 3rd gen RX-7), so you may run into trouble if you don’t have the resources to take care of it properly. Changing the fluids regularly is a must, and learning how to work on the engine yourself will save you a lot of labor charges. Look around on the forums here and read up.

Learn to use the SEARCH function on the forums, instead of posting a question, chances are it has already been answered, instead of waiting for replies to a new thread it is much easier when you can find all the info you need in less than 5 minutes by searching. That will help you a lot, just make sure to do your homework… the RX-7 (especially 3rd gens) are a car that must be maintained religiously and they do cost some money to maintain. If you are considering the FD just because it seems cheaper than most other high performance cars, you may want to think twice. You will end up paying much more for this car than just the purchase price. It truly is an amazing, and fun car and can be a very reliable and fun car as long as you know your stuff.
