Project nearing completion + VIR Holiday Laps 2015!
Now that my build/resto/whatever is nearing completion, I drove my car at the Holiday laps event at VIR on November 6th.
For a small $25 donation to the Salvation army, you get to go out on the track in a group for 20 minutes at a pretty swift pace with no passing. The "pace" car was a new GTR, so good luck keeping up You also get a free photo of your car on the track, so double bonus!
It was a pretty big turnout even though it threatened to rain all day. I did see two other FDs, but did not get to see who they belonged to.
Lined up waiting to go:
A R32 GTS-4:
A sweet old Alfa:
And the money shot:
And my previous visit in 2007:

Being on the track has to be the most fun you can have with this car. It seems to belong there. The car's limits see very high, but then again, I certainly do not have the skills to test them.
Luckily, all the hard work I've put into the car seems to have been worth it. It never went over 81C on the coolant temps, and the IAT stayed steady at 43C. I think I'll need to make a better duct for the intercooler to get any lower number on the IAT.
Once I'm more confident in the car, I may do a HPDE to learn the proper way around a track.
It was definitely a great feeling to finally see what the FD is all about in a proper evironment. The Kuhmo Ecsta XS have a surprising amount of grip, and I even hit 110MPH after the Oak tree turn.
If you can make it, I highly recommend coming out to this event next year.
