EGR question
Hello all,
Searched the forums a bit; didn't see exactly what I was looking for. Only a reverse scenario.
I have a 93' w/ 93' CA car ecu (N3A3-R) and a CA LIM N3A3.
I have a wiring harness that has the EGR plug; but I have a N3A1 non-plugin EGR.
I need to go get it smogged; what's the best way to turn off the Cel #16 warning; that is stealthy and won't be seen? I also have to make it look like the harness EGR is connected to something...
Is there a way to make a socket to actually get the EGR connected?
Thanks in advance

Buy a 49 state federal ECU. I smogged mine in California like this. Then just hide the harness side connector for the EGR valve :P Mine was kicking out a 16 because it was gunked up so bad the valve was stuck. After I took it off and cleaned it it all worked fine, but the new gasket basically makes the valve useless. I just leave the federal ECU in.
I think I got my ECU for like $35 used on the forum. Someone has one for sale I'm sure

Thanks Matt, but they are going to check my ecu to match to my year.
Was hoping there's a resister/relay I can install matching the ecu harness so it can send open and close signals. Given the egr is buried I don't think they can spot it or physically see the egr?
Would state bar goes as far as checking for a egr wire if no code is thrown?

Go through the FAQs. There is a write up on putting a relay to mimic the signal of the EGR switch. I didn't realize you were taking it to BAR. What for? When I took mine for a regular smog it passed with the federal ECU. It's the exact same thing as a California ECU with the exception of it checking that the EGR physically actuated.

1993 Cali and 1994 ecus look for the egr. Put in a 1993 non-Cali ecu and it won't care if the egr is there or plugged in. That will keep the light off. You can find used ecus cheap enough on here. I probably have a dozen in the shop laying around.
I believe he found the EGR trick where you wire in a normally closed relay that opens when the solenoid is energized. Because he's going to BAR, they will check the ECU model number. Along the same lines, you could just tell BAR you swapped in a 49 state motor and they should be able to pass it regardless :P
