The Project Begins.
The Project Begins.
It's about time to get my FD on the road. I blew the motor about a year and a half ago. I just never had the finacial backing to get it running. Now, I'm ready. I am going to do the automatic to manual swap as well as put in a working motor. Today, I pulled my motor and ripped out my exhaust system. (This is done without the aid of a garage. Which really sux.) Tomorrow, I'm going to drop the auto transmission and hopefully move the FD into a garage so I can work on it. Also, I am going to order some parts. Hopefully, all the parts I ordered will be arriving in a week or so. Then the fun begins.
I know I should have pulled the motor and tranny together but I had pulled the motor out earlier and just placed it back in the car just to save space.
P.S. There are not many good write up's on how to drop an auto transmission, so I guess I'm on my own.
I'll try posting pictures. I can never get the picture thing to work on this server.

Yeah, post pics of everything. You said there arent many good write ups for the auto to manual swap, so why dont you make an awesome write up for others to follow. The key is... LOTS OF PICTURES.
Good luck with all the work.
Good luck with all the work.
The transmission was dropped and was a success. Except for the 4 quarts of ATF I that was left in the street. I don't think the EPA would appreciate that, but who gives a hoot. Anyways, the car is now in the garage. It only took 5 guys to push it. (The garage is on a very steep hill.) I'm just waiting on some parts to come in and I'll be set.

EJMack's auto->manual guide got off to a great start. It walks you though every step of the process. Too bad its only half complete.

i would highly suggest going to rotaryaviation.com and picking up both fd engine pull and install and the 13b engine r&r for your project. it explaines everything and shows every bolt and nut you must take off for both an auto and a manual tranny engine! its about 100 bucks for all 3 videos (i got the fc one as well) but its just as valuable as the FSM is! perhaps even more so...
I'd be highly suprised if you cant drop your auto tranny and/or rebuild your own engine after watching these video. i mean photo how to's on this site are pretty good and fairly moron proof, these are actual live action videos... monkey see, monkey do hehe
