profec type-s: need help
hi...
installing my profec type s and a quick question, and probably silly one.
there are two types of install (requiring the use of 2 different ports) an actuator type and a wategate type.
I assume i use the wastgate type, which requires me to use the COM port and the NC port on the solenoid that comes with the controller.
can someone please confirm or deny relatively quickly as i'm in the midst of the install.
thanks!!!

thanks...ok, i think i figured out that it uses the actuator type...so i used the NO and the COM ports.
now a few more issues....
1) of course i dont have a pill in my 4" line (it's a 94) so must i drill out the nipple? do i drill on the turbo side or the wastegate side? I assume that if i dont drill this i can only dial boost up and not down, is this correct?
2) i''ve removed the other wastegate line that runs back to the engine. what is the best method for plugging this nipple? do i also need to plug the hose or just let it hang free?
thanks again

Please search under Profec B -- there are several write ups on this topic.
You want to set it for "actuator", not "wastegate".
You need to plug the line going back to the solenoid rack AND the nipple on the turbo housing. You can just cut the line and screw a bolt into both ends (and zip-tie it off).
You do NOT need to drill out the nipple to use an EBC.
Once you've got it installed properly, you can search for tuning tips -- search under my username and profec b, I know I've posted the procedure several times over the years.

Good luck!
Get a passenger to help you tune it if you can. It's a bit difficult to drive the car at WOT in 3rd gear and look at the boost gauge and for the po-po at the same time.
Here, I found one of my older posts with a short tuning write-up. This is for the Profec-B, but should work identically for your Type-S:

Tuning the Profec B
1. Make sure Profec is properly installed.
2. Make sure DIP switches on back of Profec are set to normal position.
3. Turn both boost ***** to minimum.
4. Do a 3rd gear run with the Profec OFF to verify that boost is at 7-8 psi.
5. Turn Profec back ON and adjust Balance **** to about midway.
6. Do a 3rd gear run with the Profec ON to verify proper operation.
7. SLOWLY raise the LO boost setting **** until you are achieving 10 psi.
8. Tune the Balance setting: You want the Balance as far towards Sharp as you can get without getting unstable boost. When you adjust it too far towards Sharp, you will see your boost waver around your target instead of holding steady. BE CAREFUL -- When you adjust the Balance ****, it also changes the boost level you are hitting. Turning Balance to Sharp should reduce boost level.
9. Once the Balance control is tuned, readjust the LO boost **** to achieve target boost. Do a run in 4th gear if possible (be careful!) and also check 5th gear primary response (go 75 mph up a long hill in 5th) to make sure you won't overboost in the higher gears.
10. Tune the HI boost setting the same way. Be careful, as the HI boost **** is set to produce about 3 psi more than the LO **** at the same position.
11. Remember not to tune for above 10 psi if you are still running the stock ecu. Don't tune above 13-14 psi unless you have an upgraded fuel system.
12. You are done! Enjoy your boost controller!
