Profec B trouble (inconsistant)

I purchased the Profec B from a guy in Japan, used. I installed it with the basic 'Version 1' it didnt work off the bat, so I blamed it on not getting the 'air filter' with the boost controller.

2nd night I left it installed and went out cruising. When I got on it, I saw my boost jump to 14psi. So I adjusted the **** and *bam, 12psi. Even the transition was good. I played with high boost and got it at 14psi. - I was happy.

The following day I got on it and the usual turbo 'airflow noise' sounded different. I looked at the gauge and it registered 8psi. So it wasnt working. I turned the controller to off and still got 8psi. for days it didnt work. And then out of nowhere it worked agian, just once and back to not working. I purchased a 1-way check valve and attached it where the 'air filter' goes and nothing changed. I then removed the check valve and talked to some FD owners that didnt think the air filter would cause the irradic behavior.

I then borrowed my friends Profec B (control box only) and same result, 8psi on or off. I unhooked the 'OUT' line from the Greddy Solenoid box and blew threw it... hmm I could hear air rushing out. I fixed the leak, drove it and got still no workie. So I opened up the Solenoid Box to check it out.. everything looked in order. I checked all the lines and didnt see any other leaking.

On to Plan B tonight. Where I hook it up like ?Version 2? -to be cont?

Any other people that had a similar problem with their Profec B and fixed it?

Erick,
Seeing that you have someone you can actually borrow profec parts from to do some trouble shooting, you should borrow the wire from him that runs from the profec to the stepper motor. Take a run and see if it works...

No workie?

leave his wire in and swap out stepper motors and see if that work.

no workie? Just keep swapping parts till you figure out which part is giving you trouble.

I understand how you feel...inconsistent boost is a bitch.

Ok, Ive now tried the Boost Controller installed in both ways. Version 2 yielded 1 run in which it hit higher than 8psi (for some odd reason) But no 2ndary Boost.

Soooo, I put it back to stock (which had me at 13~14psi) And guess what, it only hit 10psi on Primary and 2ndary on the first 3 runs.
Plus the normal 'air swooshing' sound was different! And the BOV sound was softer and had a different pitch.

As I headed home I punched on the gas again, and wouldnt you know it 14psi! So whats up?
I must have something going on in the Turbo vacuum system or something? Cuz putting the stock turbo/wastegate pills back in proves its not the Profec B thats acting funny.

I decided to leave the Profec B on and have it setup under the normal Version 1. Just to see if it kicks in sometime. (so far nada)
But twice when I started the car, I blipped the throttle to bypass AWS and the car died.. So someone please help me get in the right direction to solving this boost issue with & without the Profec B.

Erick,
Have you tried to trace those two lines coming off the primary turbo plastic elbow to see if you had them hooked up or not?
