Profec B PROBLEMS!!(searched)
I've tried searching and searching and searching but no luck!
I installed a Profec B recently and I can not get it to do anything.
I have everything hooked up. . the OUT going to the wastegate, and the IN going to the turbos, the other line has been capped off and the control unit mounted and hooked up with power and boost line.
When I have the unit off and it won't limit my boost at all it goes over 10 psi and then I let off the gas. It won't stay below 7psi like its supposed to it will just keep going!
What did I do wrong???
I had to mount the acutator with the nipples level with the ground and not pointing up towards the hood, do to space limits is that my problem??
Any help would be great my car has been down for a week and I am getting pissed. . . .
Thanks Justus

Did you remember to cap the other nipple on the wastegate? There is a second nipple on the wastegate that allows your ECU to control boost. Remove vacume hose and let it hang, there is no need to cap it, and cap the nipple on the wastegate. I had this same problem when I installed my Profec B yesterday.
Most people install the black box directly behind the passanger side headlight.

after I hooked up the acutator I removed the other line coming from the turbo that went to the wastegate? and capped off both of the nipples that the line used to go to. Was I only suppoed to cap one?
Thanks
Thanks
As I recall, and I can't verify this yet because my car will not be running until tomarrow becaue I am doing other stuff to it as well, you are soposed to let the hose that controls the ECU part of the wastegate vent into the air and not cap it. You only need to cap the nipple on the wastegate.
I bet that if you remove the cap from the turbos and let it vent into the air you should be able to control your boost.

You did remove the pill from the vacuum lines, right? With both high/low ***** turned to off or even the unit powered off completely, you should have no more than 7psi boost(default).

Jason, I am very confused about which nipples you are talking about.
PosrcheGuy I pulled that cap off the nipple just a min ago and took it for a ride and I am still boosting unrestriced(above 10psi) with the profec B off.
Toadman Yes I removed the pill I took the whole line out and put in new lines.
Any other ideas??
Thanks again

Justus, I remember you telling me before that you were boosting at 12psi without a boost controller. Boost controllers can not lower the amount of boost, only raise it. If you were boosting 12 before, you will boost 12 now at the minimum.
I didn't read the whole thread but there are 2 actuators, are you sure you are connecting the right one?

SyderJL:
You should have removed the short line with the pill in it that runs from the primary turbo housing to the wastegate actuator. See attached image.
There is a second nipple on the wastegate actuator. There is a vacuum line running from this up to the wastegate solenoid at the front of the UIM. Cut this hose and plug both openings -- essentially plug the nipple AND the end of the hose. Don't touch the hose running to the pre-control and don't remove the pill in that line.
Make sure this is how you've got the system hooked up. And relocated your Greddy solenoid so it is oriented properly. Behind the ABS along the fender wall is a great place due to the ABS heat shield and for routing the vacuum lines.

Thanks rynberg, just to make sure; I plug both of the nipples after I pull the line from the other side of the wastegate, or just the nipple on the wastegate?

There are two nipples on the wastegate actuator. One connects to the primary turbo housing and one connects to the wastegate solenoid. The Profec B should be hooked in replacing the line from the primary turbo housing. The nipple serving the wastegate solenoid should be capped. The line from the wastegate solenoid that is now not connected to anything on one end should be capped as well.
I hope that you get yours working SyderJL. I got my car reassembled this afternoon and so far my Profec B works great. I left the ECU wastegate hose uncapped. The only negative is an annoying hiss that wasn't there before when I let off of the gas. What is this?

btw, if your car has been down for only a week, consider yourself lucky, just wait till your fd is down for like 3+years like jim's. I personnaly have had fds which were down for over 5 months easy.
Also make sure you removed ALL the plastic caps/plugs that were in the Valve unit. You must unplug the NC port as well. Nothing goes to it though. I just installed the spec 2 today and have a 7-5-7 pattern. I'm going to tune it up tomorrow. Anyone have any settings for a stock boost pattern? ( just for a reference point) Aloha !!!!

That statement is totally incorrect. Unless he is getting boost creep (would only happen with intake and full exhuast), you can lower boost to 7 psi with any aftermarket boost controller.

Justus, did you get that fixed yet?

Like I said, I didn't read the entire thread. But from general turbo setups with external wastegates, you can not lower boost with a boost controller. In this case there is a pill in the vaccum line which acts as a boost controller and I didn't know he took that out.

Sorry to bring this thread up, but I have one question, regarding this istall. Today i installed my profec B, the old style one with *****.
Anyway, what i did was, I got the IN line coming from turbo side and OUT coming from wastegate going to that Unit. And also line coming from UIM for boost.
I didn't cap the other line going from the solenoids to the wastegate, because i didn't know I was suppose to do that. However, i did unplug both of the solenoids for the Wastegate and the Pre-control.
I set the balance to 50 % and low boost to around half. What i got is 9 psi at primary, no transition and 11 psi on secondary. No matter how much i turn the **** i always get 9 on primary.
Ok my questions are did I connect everything right? Do i have to unplug the solenoids for the Pre-control and wastegate or not? I will cap the other line coming from the solenoids to the wastegate.
Thanks

Ugh, bad mistake. The Profec b only controls the wastegate, you still need the pre-control solenoid to work!
Also, both the nipple on the wastegate and the vacuum line leading back to the stock wastegate solenoid should be capped off.
