Hi all. I have been trying to get my fd unflooded for the past couple of days as I have time to work on it. Read all the posts I've found and tried everything but brand new plugs and atf in the plug holes. It acts like it wants to start but wont quite get there. Background... I just replaced the old twins with a fresher set, got everything back together and it fired right up and sounded good, I was so excited I forgot and turned it off after a couple of seconds which I assume is why I am having this issue. Setup is stock with the exception of a new downpipe. I guess atf is the next step unless anyone else has suggestions. Thank you.

 

So you have pulled the plugs, pulled the fuel relay and cranked the motor over three times for 15 seconds each?

Then clean the plugs and try again. I would also try new plugs at this time. Use the ATF as a last resort IMO.

hey bro...i think this is the easiest way to unflood your car.

Pull out the EGI fuse located in your fusebox close to the battery, then go and press the clutch and step on the gas pedal all the way, turn the car over for approximately 30 to 45 seconds...hope this helps

 

New plugs are pretty important. Just the regular non-platinum plugs from Advance Auto will work.

i had the same problem. i fallowed the instructions at rx7city . but it took for ever. i pull the fuel relay. pulled the primary plugs.cranked it 3 times for 15 seconds. and left it sitting for 30 min. to air out. then repeated. a gew times(i wanted to make sure all the fuel was out)
then put everything back, and it started right up.
i did add a little ATF since the car had been sitting for a while,
i learned the hard way about starting my 7 for just a few seconds

 

Thanks for the input....I tried to start it again this morning, but should have put the charger on the battery, it was sounding a little tired. Hopefully I can find new plugs in town and that will cure the problem.

 

You can always pull tow start it. I had some serious starting problems when I rebuilt my engine. I eventually had to get it pulled to start it. If you do the pull tow start, make certain to be in neutral or in gear with the clutch depressed and then put the car into gear by releasing the clutch. It should start right up as well.

 

when i unflood my motor, i just unplug the leads, pull the main circuit relay (the green one in the fuse box by the suspension turret) floor it and crank it for a bit until it sounds like its not flooded again (on my car when its flooded, the car just whirrs when i try and start it i.e sounds like whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiir insted of whir whir whir whir)

Plug the leads back in, reinstall the fuse - works for me! you have to use the gas to keep the revs up though until it burns off all the excesss fuel stuck in the turbos and exhaust.

 

new plugs definately did the trick. started right up. Runs fine at higher rpms but really seems to be struggling at idle...missing badly...surging between 500-800 rpms. Ive decided I am only here to pay for this car, and work on this car, and never get to drive this car.

 

Doing the unflooding trick with the fuel relay fuse unplugged with the spark plugs out worked for me the first time. After trying for over 15 times trying that trick, I just tow started it.
