A bad synchro can let you shift at low rpm but grind at high rpm . Rynberg is correct in that you do need to shift correctly ,and be sure your motor mounts are up to the task .A car with new motor mounts will be better with the correct ETB . What I am saying is your synchro could be bad but not being there how do we know for sure .Rynberg ( accepted as a good driver ) ,let me ask you some questions . Do you have solid motor mounts ? If yes stop . Have you been a car with Garfinkles ETB ? If no lets go on .If you try the brace ,may be you will be even faster and the car may feel better in several ways .What will it cost ,but some time . If you try one and you do not want it ,send it back . That go for any one , just send it back . What if it does improve your car . Then you will know more than the others . That the ETB works and how to drive fast .

I didn't mean to imply that the a well-designed torque brace won't help (although I find it VERY hard to believe that a torque brace doesn't add noticeable noise/vibration to the cabin).

What I meant is that 9 times out of 10, a driver is missing the 2-3 shift due to driver error. Buying short shifter kits and torque braces are often band-aids for poor shifting. I admit that on a single turbo car making 400 rwhp, a torque brace might be more necessary, but I don't have experience with that.

BTW, I am still on the 100% original drivetrain (except for clutch) with 78k miles. I am running Redline tranny fluid.

I understand what you type . My thinking is that what if it will help and it does improve a good thing ( your good skill ) And the cabin is quiet as everyone with Garfinkles brace says . What if the ( your ) car feels tighter and more responsive .It will cost you nothing to find out . This is all for fun with our cars and the knowledge we gain . So get one ,dont put it in and tell every one I am wrong in helping David to help others . Or put it in and see for your self one way or the other . Several buyers do race their cars and none to date have ask for their money back .Either way it cost you nothing ,if you do not like it ,send it back . Again have you been in a car with the Garfinkle brace and driven at least 10 miles ? yes or no .I am in no way wanting to be disrespectful to you . turn that around . I hope you like the brace because your word on the forum is taken with high regard . Ask around if any one will send their brace back for a refund , David will send it to you free of charge . You are correct a band aid is only that .But an improvement is an improvment .

I'll strongly consider trying one out. Got a few other things on the plate right now (don't we all?).

Like I said, I didn't mean to sound like I was bad mouthing Garfinkle's brace (or any torque brace), I just think people should view it as an improvement rather than a fix.

Take care,

Tyler

Duboisr - where can one get Garfinkle's torque brace ?
Anyone knows how much labor is involved in changing the motor mounts ?

Thanks!

Garfinkle can be called for info and orders .615-893-4469 Labor for motor mounts, ask Garfinkle how to do it when you call . You can do it from the bottom if you have the car up on the larger jack stands . Un bolt the steering rack and drop the sub frame down about 4 or 5 inches .

Several people call him from England and some have bought custom parts . Shipping is high . Call him is all I can say . I will be glad to help you but what do you need .To save shipping you could get a brace with the link 13 and 3/8 inches . That is the most requested size , instead of one made to fit your car . What side of the road do you drive on ,the brace is on the right side of the car .

Nothing to measure untill the brackets are installed . If you call he will explain the complete thing . A telephone call ( money ) well spent .

Ahh, I see. Do you think he could send me the brackets first and then the brace afterwards ? Actually, I would order 2 braces, as a friend would have one also (soru81 member on forum). Yesterday I was at my mechanic, doing the tune-up and I asked him to check my differential and engine mounts. And they are fine, so next step before taking apart the tranny and replacing the synchros is the brace. I can shift from 2nd to 3rd during hard accelerating without grinding, but it just takes a while (not something I would be used to doing).

So could you ask David, how much would he ask for the brackets shipped to Slovenia, Europe ?

Thanks for help, I appreciate it.

Regards,
Tadej
