problem with my car. help!

it turns over and revs up but then it just dies (not a cold start). and when i immediately try again, it wont turn over at all. so i'm thinking that at the least, i need a new battery (i already knew mine sucked). but i'm afraid that there might be some other problems with it like maybe with the alternator or plugs. hopefully you can shed some light on this problem, because i'm tired of taking my car to mazda. btw, my engine is brand new from japan, so i don't think it's anything major. thanks for any replies.

Well, we'll need more info in order to help you. What year 7? How many miles? Totally stock? When you day motor from Japan, how do you mean? Who installed the motor? What are the circumstances surrounding this problem? Did it just start happening since the new motor was installed?

do your electronics act a little funny when it is about to die as well? If so it could also be that your altenator has gone sour. If you can jump start it and run it for awhile and it dies while running it is more likely the altenator than the battery. I believe most auto parts store like autozone can check it in their parking lot for free.

Also if your battery is older and has lived with a dying altenator it will also be dead, using a dead battery with a good altenator or a good altenator with a dead battery usually kills the other as well.

that's what i was thinking (the alternator). i didn't really notice anything weird with the electronics though but i have a turbotimer in so everything runs afterward anyway. about my car: '93 base, 2002 engine and turbos with 4700 miles installed by pettit racing early this year. no major mods, just bolt ons and a pfc.
