Unhappy Problem....

Well this past week i took the liberty to take off my air pump, and also replace a fan motor, and after all that i toped off all the fluids ect. then i took it out for a spin and the idle was really low and on my boost gage it was way off the Vacuum was going up and down... but when i would give it gas it was fine, so i went and drove it let it warm up and i got on it a little and for some reason it would spool then nothing no boost... but it went right back up after 2 runs down my road, and on the 3 the temp shot way up and then steam like crazy, i stopped and opened the hood and it was all up front i got it back home and the drain plug was till there... and all the hoses still there.. i added more coolent and im about to go take a look at it but has any one had that problem with there 7 when they take off the air pump?...

You might have damaged a coolant hose in that area. The no boost is likely due to you not properly tightening one of the clamps on the intercooler piping you had to remove to remove the IC. It is also possible the Lower IC hose now has a hole in it if this was the first time it was removed in many years.

Also check the coupler coming off the ypipe connecting to the crossover pipe. The boost should be a simple fix, the coolant leak may be a little harder to find.

Are you adding the coolant to the filler neck, or to the overflow tank?

It seems that a coolant hose may have a hole in it and it is allowing the coolant to contact the exhaust/ turbo and causing it to steam. The two hoses that go to the turbos to cool them are visible with the airpump off i would start to look there. Maybe if you can get your hands on a coolant system pressure tester you can pressureize it without it running.

As for the vacuum problem and no boost. I think that it is possible you may have knocked off a vacuum hose causing no boost. You are saying that the vacuum is flucuating (sp) does the car idel smooth? Does it feel like it has no boost maybe the line going to the gauge is leaking giving you a bad reading?\

Edit : i see that you said that the idle is low.

well the steam is comming from the top of the radior and I just looks at it and I think the main hose from the top of the radior to the filler cap is loose because it's all leaking from around the top so I mght just take this time to replace that hose because a month ago the bottom one busted.... I will try to tighten it down better and see if it is holding persure in the main hose because I can squez it allmost in half when it should be rock solid

I will try this then late yal know !! Thanks

you had to adjust the idle after removing the air pump. so that problem should be fixed. all the issues you are talking about seem to be seperate.

silly question but do you still have factory radiator (plastic ends) or an all aluminum aftermarket one? If it is original, all the moving around and along with running it hot a month ago (when your first radiator hose popped) I would look for a cracked radiator

Glad you fixed it. I agree w/ the wet part. Best car I've ever driven on dry asphalt, worst I've driven on wet conditions.

I have a coolant leak problem. I recently purchased this car. I had noticed a small drip when I was doing my oil change, but didn't think much of it. After I did the oil change I did a round around the block. Didn't get very far before I noticed a large amount of steam coming from the turbo side of the car. From reading, I figure it must be a hose on the turbos. However, when I try to refill the lost coolant, it immediately leaks from an unseen in the location. It's pooling directly under the engine. Furthermore I cannot start the car to get working on it. Does this still sound like a textbook case of a turbo hose failure? Please help, thanks...
