Primary turbo spike above 14 psi

Hello alll, as my title states i'm having boost spike issues on the primary. Yes, i have searched and searched but the searches are very limited.

My mods are:
M2 SMIC
Intake
Downpipe
3 inch cat back to a 3 inch tip.

This is a set of rebuilt twins i'm running and i didn't have this spike issue with the old twins i threw out.

In third gear at WOT my boost gauge will move past 14 psi and keep rising if i leave my foot on the peddle but i let off asap because i have felt it choke and do not want to blow my motor. I've all vacuum hoses in correct locations, the pills are in the vacuum lines on the primary still.

It is odd because i would expect this with a midpipe but i still have the OEM cat installed.

Any clue my fellow fd owners?

I've heard that even exhaust could bring your pressure up to 11 to 12 psi.
I had downpipe, exhaust, and intake and did not have boost spike.
As soon as I installed high flow cat, I had spike to 13+ psi.
Then I decided to use boost controller and I never passed 10 psi since then.
I recommend you to add a boost controller even without midpipe.

Yep, you are overdue for a boost controller. I had spiking on my car with just a downpipe and cat-back.

The factory boost controller just can't keep up, and with the new turbos they are operating as they are supposed to.

Get a good aftermarket electronic boost controller and there ya go.

Not too butt in, but figured no need to start new thread. Im having downpipe and rb catback put on my 93 with stock ecu and intake. I thought I did enough research and wouldn't have boost issues, now im wondering if I will need a boost controller.

I have hit fuel cut with only a drop in K&N filter and PFS downpipe. You can never play it too safe with these cars as far as boost control goes.

You need to have control of the boost and FI system before you go messing with things. This is why the world thinks these engines are made of glass when they really only require the right amount of fuel!

Yup, either use a boost controller or get an Apexi Power FC on the car and get it tuned and let it control the boost for you.
