Primary Turbo Intake Pipe

I'm changing this pipe very soon on my '93 FD. According to the diagram (Factory Manual p. C-26), the pipe-turbo flange gasket must be replaced.

Is this a must, or is this only Mazda's set-up go get $30 for a piece of gasket from me?

How can you tell if the gasket is still reusable? Thanks much, dudes

It is reusable if it is metal. If it is paper replace it.

So, it IS Mazda's scheme to get more money then Doesn't metal gasket go bad as well? Do I need to put any kind of sealant in this particular place?

If you use a paper gasket, I would use some RTV or something just to help make sure it doesn't break and get sucked in. If you are using a metal gasket, you shouldn't need anything.

That flange is pretty un-stressed - it's an intake pipe, so it only sees vacuum. Nothing to worry about. If you had a big ole leak there, you would probably never notice it - the car would start and run just fine.
