Wink Is that price right? -sorry

Ok I know this topic has been killed but each situation is different so Ill throw one to you rotor heads.

The skinny:
93 black on black r1
bone stock everything
8xxxx miles
5 spd
150 miles on mazda NEW (rotros, housings, seals, etc) motor (yes bone stock mazda )
150 miles on rebuilt tranny
**turbos need replacing (boosting fine but leaky oil)
no rust anywhere
interior is so fresh and so clean clean
BRAND NEW PAINT (this crazy moron just got a new $4000 paint job)
seats are in perfect shape minus slight wear on driver bolster
carpet in tip top shape
brand new tires

Now no special mods or any of the reliabilty upgrades done but it is a brand new motor and tranny.

I know the asking price but before I yield, what would you guys pay? I am seriously looking at the car but what should I be carefull of and what should I pay for the car. Please let me know guys! I really want to join the rotary club but I dont want to get screwed on one of these beauties.

Why did he get a reman engine, but the turbos don't work?

I don't understand why you would spend the time and money to replace the engine and not do turbos at the same time....

I'd be suspicious....

If all was good, $15-17k....
If this car is a potential lemon....$9-12k

You can get a set of used turbos for around $600. Everything sounds pretty good, if you buy the car the engine and tranny should be covered under warranty.

Get a compression test done on the car before you purchase the RX-7. It will only cost you $40 and this will tell you if the engine is still good.

$17K sounds pretty good.

As to why he didn't replace the turbos might be because he doesn't has the money to replace the twins. It cost about $2000-$3000 to get new turbos.

Thanks guys for all the insght keep it comming! I would like to get as many ideas as I can so all opinions are welcome. To answer a few questions heres the scoop. (its owned by a woman) A rich woman and her husband bought the vehicle new in 94. She loved the car to death but shes always been partial to euro cars such as bimmers and mercs. The rx7 was her weekend sportscar while she drove her benz around town. About a year ago she ordered a 2001 911 turbo. She still loved the rx7 but ther porsche kinda outweighed it. She decided instead of letting the rx7 collect dust, she would sell it. A friend of hers bought it and drove it for a while. As luck should have it, her friend coulndt afford the car and also blew the motor. She was really up sh^ts creek so she worked it out with the porsche lady to give the car back. So now the rich woman had an rx7 that doesnt work. This couple could give a crap about upgrades so they bought another mazda engine and tranny and had it installed by a local rx7 guru. (they at least knew not to take it to mazda) Everything was workig fine (only driven around 100 miles) and they noticed a leak. Took it down to mazda and the car is boosting right but they said the turbos are leaking and gotta get new ones. The family still loves the car but is tired of fixing it since they have 6 other high-end cars and just want to get rid of it. Thats the story I got. She sounds legit too since women dont really lie about cars and she has no reason to with the money she has. I forogt to mention when the motor was pulled the car got the new paint job. Thats my update as of right now.
Keep letting me know what you all think!

a 1993 car w. 80k miles. even though the engines been replaced it doens't mean the suspension and brakes and other stuff like that has. 18-19 k you can get one with 50k miles. with original engine. not worth it. 15k sounds a little too mcuh. but its your money

Ok good comments guys, keep them comming please!

93ttrx7: Most likely his precat is clogged but thats what a downpipe is for =]

I will not keep this car stock. First things are reliability mods then apexi power fc, then the fun stuff.

Elizer: good point, most of the suspension and brakes are probably factory but thats not too much of a problem is it? Eventually Ill slap on some teins and I definately want to get the ap racing champ car brakes. Is there anything I should look for on the car? (other than general car buying stuff) but mainly specific to the fd....

keep 'em comming guys

Ok I talked to a few people about the car and got an update. The engine is a remaned mazda motor. Tranny is remaned mazda. The driver door handle broke off so hell replace that for me. The paint was done very recently and it was sanded and wet sanded and painted factory color with 3 clear coats on it. The person who put in the motor said the car was cherry minus the drivers seat having bolster problems. He replaced all the vacum hoses with silicon hoses. The car is in great shape and it runs perfect now just minor oil leaks. I am going to have him take it down to pettit and have them look over the car and tell me what they think.

Is there anything else I shoud be looking for?

He kept it I think. His rex was cherry so I think he decided to keep it but he should at least answer my calls and this guy! Pettit was waiting for him so i called him up and BAM! I sold it. Sorry to hear that... But honestly, if you want one of these cars... don't spend time here on the forum trying to figure out if the price is a good deal or not... either fork out the money or wait for another one to come around.

I know but this is my first fd and now Im strating to see the trend of prices and dependability. I am frantically looking all over for one but they are tough to find. And I just wanted to seek the forums expert advise before I dump over the cash to such an exciting car.

Honestly, the price of the car is only worth what you are willing to pay and what the seller is willing to take.

If you find a FD in great condition, the owner won't take anything less than $24k, and you won't pay more than $18k, it doesn't matter what everyone else in the forum thinks the price should be...

People here have gotten FD's cheap or paid a lot of money for them. No matter what the range, everyone (for the most part) is just glad to have one.

Just get what you can for how much money you can spend. Unless the car has serious damage, you can fix what's not "perfect".
