Yeah, meanwhile, prices of well modded cars go down I get that people want one that's unmolested...but why spend all that money on a stock car, then spend even more to do what countless others have already done?

The main reason to spend the money on a stock FD is because you know no one has Jerry-rigged it. It is always better to start with a fresh canvas. The only thing I would consider is if a reputable shop performed all the repairs and the seller has all receipts.

I just bought an immaculate 93 with 27k on it. Red/Tan, 5 spd, leather, roof, Bose, R1 front and rear spoilers, some basic upgrades with 17 inch SSR wheels......I paid 16k for it and thought that was a great deal.

i just cant get over that when I bought an fd going on 7-8 yrs ago, I got it for like 8k with 70k on it and a stock body and built motor. for the same car now is 20k. sigh

I picked up my 94 PEP with 38k miles bone stock except for catback for 12k.

Careful though, as I recently learned low mileage is not necessarily a good thing. If the coolant is let to sit and not changed often it can wear/damage the coolant seal :/

Also, if you can get a good deal on a properly built, well documented FD, I would also consider it. Going from stock to where you might want it to be, is extremely expensive. Whereas a tastefully modded FD might give you a decent amount of basic upgrades for close to nothing.

Picked mine up for $9k in Houston. '94 chaste while touring, tan leather, glass sunroof, and spoiler. Mods were arc smic, trust catback, k&n filters, and apexi boost controller at the time.

$20k for a 70k FD? Where? Have you been reading this thread? There are several cars in the classifieds now with less than 40k miles for $15k or so. Why do so many FD owners think that normal market values do no apply to their car?

As for modified cars being worth the same or less than stock cars - it has always been so and is true for almost any car that I can think of. A rough rule of thumb is to add $0 to the market value of a car for every $1k in modifications. The only possible exceptions is if a car has significant (e.g., a 20B) documented modifications from a major tuner - and even then, the modifications probably only get 30 cents on the dollar.

With the economy how it is now, prices have dropped off pretty steeply. My friend just got a really nice silver/red for 9.5k. A couple years ago that would have sold for 13-14. I bought my BB R1 (in immaculate condition, new motor) a few years back with about 95k for $16k. These days I'm afraid it would be around the 12-13k range.

I been keeping an eye on the KBB for the past few months in my area austin/dallas
and RX7 prices went up 500-1000$ lol

Ive also been checking ads and none for sale this past week
though there were a few modified ones for sale last month

Unless is a white FD, CYM or an FD under 50K miles i wouldnt spend more that 13K for a stocker. sorry.
These cars are awesome and all but if you pay 15K for a stock FD then u will have to spend another 5K in upgrades and before you know it you have 20K plus spent on a car that is only worth 10K...

Honestly- people who Buy FDs and are successful on keeping them for years are folks who are financially stable and know what they are getting them selves into.

the FD is getting quite old which is regrettable but part of the progress of life

we recently purchased a 2010 rx8 for my honey and we looked at the hyundai genesis coupe, miata and 370z
I tried selling my FD for 11,ooo in texas a few years ago and all i got was low ball offers
someone even wanted to trade me an integra...
anyway, you need to find the right car and the right buyer/seller which can be time consuming.

oh, and btw, the stock 370z is a freaking monster but way too dangerous for a daily driver in my opinion, the visibility in the thing is ridiculous.

Bumping an old thread to ask a follow-up question. For stock cars that still have the original engine with higher (70k+) miles, how does that affect the value of the vehicle? Most cars with that mileage have had replacements, so I'm trying to understand if the car would be worth less on the assumption that it would need a rebuild. Any idea what a ballpark price would be, assuming the car currently runs and drives fine?

I bought my spotless '94 Chaste White for $11,500 with 11x,xxx(ish) miles, reman motor at 91k miles. It was bone stock. That was over a year ago and I've spent around $10k on upgrades since.

9.5k for an automatic MB FD in Dallas. Female owned in great condition, mods were downpipe and exhuast, all work done at a rotary shop. Couldn't have gotten luckier for the price and condition. Oh motor was rebuilt with only 14k on the new motor. I redid the interior with flat black bumper spray and everything looks new.

You can get a nice FD for cheap, just got to be on the lookout, but be careful when buying. I bought my car from a female who babied her car and had it sitting in the garage, most people don't get that lucky lol.

The good ones or the mostly stock well cared for TT cars are now selling for 20k plus if in good shape. Take a look at autotrader, cars.com etc....

The deals or the 10k cars typically need:

Paint 3k to 7k

Susp work 2k to 5k

Something or everything is leaking: oil pan, steering rack/res, ABS pump, gas fill neck from not having a good seal on the tank, exhaust leaks of many varieties lim, uim, dp, turbo etc...etc...

Interior pieces missing and broken

etc...etc...

In 5 years the prices for cars with less than 40 to 50k miles in good shape will be 30k plus. The values are going higher and higher everyday

So take care of your car and fix things as needed etc... and it will pay for itself in 10 years time. You certainly won't make money but you shouldn't loose too much and in the interim you have the pleasure of driving one of the greatest cars of all time

PS Don't expect your single turbo car or your V8 to go up in value much SORRY

I think it helps that NADA(value that almost all lenders use) spike for the 93 models this year as it now values them as classics. The 94s will do the same in January. Loan value on a 30k mile FD is around $22k right now. Prices are definitely rising for clean examples.
