presure / vacuum tester?

Hey all,

What have you been using to test the pressure-activated stuff on your 3rd gen?

I've been using a vacuum pump with gauge for the vacuum stuff, but can't seem to find any sort of "pressure pump w/gauge" for purchase.

I'm left with two ideas:

1) Rig a hose / valve from the pressure tank and use the boost pressure stored in it to do my tests. ... What a pain.

2) Modify a radiator pressure tester for use with vacuum hose. ... I hate to hack up a perfectly good tool!

So what does everyone use?

Thanks!

figured it out!

Hello again all you slackers , thanks for all of the replies !

OK ... just kidding. The real reason that I posted this is to help all the newbs like me. The Mityvac vacuum pump has a nipple that will pump air out. AKA pressure. I tested it. It will push a little more than 10psi. The gauge that it comes with is Vac. only, so I had to purchase an extra gauge for pressure. I'm happy though, now I have a spare boost gauge and can teach my secondary boost problem a lesson.

I'm off to put some pressure on my TCA ...

I have MityVac also. I was a little disappointed with the guage. Its connection to the pump seems weak. It seemed to have broken off at that point during shipping. I got a replacement that made it through UPS fine. I think I will have to be careful not to stress out that connection during use. Otherwise its a fine tool.

I have to admit, it does seem a bit flimsy, but it seemed my only choice. I’m going to keep my eyes open for a better one. I still have a Sunpro Vac only pump from ten years ago ... still works great and is a bit more rugged than the Mityvac. Hmm ...Mityvac does make a metal version of my pump, but before I spend that much, I'm going to see if I can find one with a pressure and vacuum scale on the gauge. I had to pick this up now … my secondary boost prob is driving me crazy!
