Premixing?

Just to be sure, i premix 4 oz of 20W50 oil right? per 10-15gallon tank of gas i fill up? Ive been using the special fuel lubricant that comes in 4oz bottles but i ran out and need to get some more. Do i just use regular engine oil or should i buy some good 2 stroke oil? I currently use Castrol GTX 20W50 for my oil. Thanks for the help

Sorry for the double post i got a proxy error and reposted

You use 2 stroke oil, not 20W50 :P

assud,
are you currently running your external oil pump? most highly modded junk the EOP and run mix in their gas. .5 oz per gallon for the street. .65 oz for the track.
if you are augmenting the external oil pump i don't have an answer for you.

With my OMP removed, I use 1oz of 2 stroke to 1g of gasoline.

No premixing. I'm over with 2-stroke engines (as a kid I used to own a few 2-stroke bikes).

some people use MMO in the tank for added "whatever" does it actually help. . . probably not a whole lot. theres no proof that it does one bit of anything to be honest. when running hard. . . and rich. . . ive dumped 2stroke in there just to be safe. . . dont wanna wash all the oil off with fuel. i have my omp blocked off, but got the rotaryaviation plate and now i run 2stroke oil from an external source. no conventional oil gets in there. if you drive the car on the street. . . its just plain stupid to get rid of the omp. the omp does its job well enough.

I would suggest any 2 stroke oil that that burns completely ashless. If it is ashless it will be printed on the bottle.

hey, I am just starting to learn about rx-7s. But if you premix then it is just like you put 4oz of 2stroke oil into your gas tank before you put the gas in?

and also I know the 7's have like a oil injector. At least I think I picked that up right in my readings. But if soemone can explain to me like the whole gist of how the oil/fuel works in a rotary engine I would greatly appreciate it.

chazzy, youre right. the stock lubrication system runs 4cycle oil into the combustion chamber/rotorhousing via oil injectors located on the rotorhousings next to the primary injectors for "proper" lubrication of the apex seals. most leave the stock system alone, many block it off and premix, and even fewer do what i did. . . OMP (oil metering pump) rerouting. you can get the adapter at www.rotaryaviation.com. you bolt it up, make a canister to hold the oil in, and mount its bung at least 6 inches higher than the bung on the "re-routing plate". very easy and worth it to me. now, i dont have to worry about scum bags telling me that i cant run synthetic oil in my rotary (even though it is TOTALLY okay). . . i just tell them i premix. . . via the OMP.

Are you doing this in addition to the OMP? If so then use 4oz if you ditched the OMP then use 16oz per tank of fuel (about 1oz per gallon of gas).

In addition I wouldnt waist my $ on MMO, use a good 2 stroke fully synthetic ashless oil. I used either Valvoline synthetic 2 stroke OR Amsoil Racing 2000 2 stroke. They are both fully synthetic which is what I'd suggest you run if you want this to actually be usefull to your engine

so if I was to use the oil enjectors I use 4 cycle oil, now is that regular oil (i.e. 5w-30, 10w-40). and if I were to just block off the injectors and premix I use 2 stroke?

How does the OMP work? Is it like a whole nother canister that you just dump the oil in at once and it maintains it somewhat like the injectors, where it takes care of itself and you dont have to put in every gas up?

omp is a mechanical pump that the ecu controlls to inject engine oil into the combustion chamber to keep the seals happy. premixing is the use of 2 STROKE oil add to the gas to get some oil into the combustion chamber via the fuel injectors instead.
