premix experiment
Ok, I'm going to start premixing this tank of gas, so I wanted to use the best stuff I could get locally.
I'm a strong believer in synthetics so I bought the synth premix by castrol. The only one they had was for snowmobiles.... same thing right?
So I had some regular premix for lawnmowers.. not even tcw3 rated. Heres what I found
regular premix lit of fire way easier and it would stay burning on its own. Then it would go out.
synthetic wouldn't stay burning on its own so I had to keep it lit with a torch.
The regular premix burned down to almost nothing.. it left a small pool of 'unburned product' left. Alot of soot in the smoke ( black)
The synthetic didn't burn nearly as long and it left way more 'unburned product' It also seemed to be sludgier(sp?).... but there was way more of it.. I didn't measure very well. Very little black smoke comming off it, WAY less than the regular
Of course I was burning this stuff on an aluminim shovel beside my house with a propane torch. I'm going to try to repeat this experiment and actually measure the amounts of each product I use, rather than just pouring it out.
I'll take pics next time.
Th regular burned way easier.. but does this mean that its leaving less lube behing?
Any comments?

use some stuff that we suggested in the other 3rd gen pre-mix threads. you know....pro-tek R, marvel mystery oil, and then let us know....and what your thoughts are....more burning better, or is less burning better....

More burning better. You don't want that crap coating your exhaust ports and catalytic converter to high hell. But try to find some ashless premix and let us know the results.

I'm interested to see how Marvel Mystery Oil burns.
[edit]For a more real-world situation test, perhaps try actually mixing the oil with gasoline in the proper ratio. [/edit]
