Powersteering pulley remover

Ditto on the impact wrench. Trust me on this TTT. I tried fabbing a tool using two screws to go into the pully hole that were in a 2x4 with a hole drilled into it to fit a socket thrrough. Long story short I broke the 2x4 before the nut would budge.

TTT,
Is the pump still on the engine? I used the belt wrapped around backwards through the Idler and center pulley and it tightened up on the P/S pulley and the bolt broke free immediately. Since the pulley is plastic to begin with, It is very fragile and can crack or break easily. I can send a picture. Email me at mccreary@cove.net

Well, the pulley is still on the car.
I cannot put a belt around it because the part that holds the tension pulley is broke, which is the reason I have to remove the p/s and a/c in the first place. the mount that holds them is broken.
So only way it to take it off via the tool, or impact wrench. =(
How much one of those babies go for. Anyone in LA willing to loan me one =D

Take the bracket off, and take it to I think AutoZone, they usually have an impact wrench. I did this when I wanted to replace the pulley on my alternator. I don't even think they charged me anything.

I made a tool out of a flat peice of aluminum and from Home Depot. works great for taking it off and putting it on. Only cost a dollar or two. Definately saves a headache.

Pulley Removal
I used a oil filter wrench, the nylon belt type. Wrap it arounf the pulley and hold it with a 3/8 drive, then back off the nut - worked great!
