Powerplant frame cracked

My powerplant frame has a crack in it about two inches long. Can I buy a reinforced or stronger than stock PPF?
How expensive are these things?

Thanx, Jake

yeah...Mazdaspeed PPF. supposedly they are 10% stronger than stock, but if you cracked the stock one, chances are that you will crack the Mazdaspeed one soon. instead of replacing the PPF every so often, how bout you solve the wheel hop issue which cracks the PPFs in the first place. even with the stock PPF, if you dont have any wheel hop, you wont crack/break it no matter how much power you are running.

BTW, the Mazdaspeed unit is $350, and is painted a very pimp red...good for a 5-8 RWHP boost and better mid-range torque.

You can buy the Mazdaspeed one too which is stronger than stock you can get it from www.rx7store.net should be a under $400.00 like they said around 350.00

It's not that hard to crack a PPF... All it takes it some wheel hop, with whichever one you put back in it I would suggest you upgrade the suspension to try to keep this from happening again like JoeD said.. I am going to get the M2 products to try to help this soon.

One way to try to minimize it is to get the trailing arms and toe links from these guys..

Eh. You know how it is. Boy meets girl. Girl takes away time from boy. Boy forgets about certain things for a little while

Does ANYONE know what effects nylon bushings will do to the powerplant frame? Oh, I DO have the entire M2 rear kit.

you could get a KAAZ limited slip differential, and say buh-bye to wheel hop for sure. or you get M2's trailing arms and toe links, and replace all the rear bushings and hope that you will no longer have wheel hop...

sure...but what problem will that solve?? you will still have wheel hop, and chances are they you will crack the PPF again either from the same spot that you welded or somewhere else. will you then weld it again?

Hit that little "qoute" button in who's ever post you want to qoute, see it to the right of "report" and "edit".. For how the LSD eliminates wheel hop, do a search(button underneath the red car at the top and search for "KAAZ LSD", you should find info

OK, im a little bit of an expert here...cracked my PPF 3 times...re-welded it all 3 times. It's not worth getting the Mazdaspeed one. Now I have a Kaaz diff(blew the stock one out) and I'm still getting MAD wheel hopp. But it's a lot more fun making slow turns now.
Im looking for a good, cheap, set of trailing arms and toe links here in Japan. I'm also looking for a set of Bushings(no luck there yet). Hopefully this will solve all my problems.

How would the diff have any effect on wheel hop? Correct me if I'm wrong but wheel hop is caused by the rubber bushings in the stock trailing arms storing up energy.

Did it crack in the same place all 3 times?

When I cracked my stock PPF at the drag strip (in three places) Chris at RP told me this:

Don't reweld it; it'll just keep breaking. Get the Mazdaspeed one; it's almost indestructible. Steve Kan has been running it for over a year w/no problems, and he drag races the hell out of his FD every weekend. Steve installed the Mazdaspeed after his stocker kept cracking. (This isn't an exact quote; going off memory here )

I was going to go w/the Mazdaspeed, but a local guy had an extra he was nice enough to give me for $50. I haven't been back to the drag strip since, and it's held up fine.

Btw, if you have access to a lift and some tranny jacks, it's not too difficult to replace the PPF. My buddy Alan and I did it in just over an hour, and we're far from being mechanically inclined

Hope this helps--

If you can weld just weld the PPF and spend you $$$ on trailing arms and toe links from either PettitRacing.com or M2Performance.com

I have Pettits kit and it works great. I never get wheel hop.

Later,
STEPHEN

No it was in different places.....I’ve reinforced it with some added steel.

Think about this...if the Mazdaspeed PPF is 10% stronger than stock what if I’m pushing more than 10% horsepower than stock?? Well I’m pushing way more than 10%...so a mazdaspeed PPF is a waste of money.

Just do what SPOautos suggests save the money and get tow links and trailing arms.

Mazdaspeed PPF can handle 10% more of the stock's PPF limit. Not 10% more of the stock's hp. If that was the case then everyone should be breaking PPF left and right.

hp has nothing to do with the PPF breaking or not. you could be running 700 hp for all it matters...the PPF breaks from wheelhop, not horsepower.
