I'm going to be pulling off my door panels to put in some new 6.5 components and to sound deaden the door.

However, my power window "sticks", it's slow for the first 1/4 of the roll up .

I was wondering what would be the best grease, and can you get it to where you need it, with the door panel off?

 

I had to remove my door panel to repair a broken exterior door handle. While I have the panel off I also decided to clean and re-lube the window regulator. Here is what I did.

First of all, you can reach what needs to be cleaned/lubed with the door panel off, as long as you also remove the clear plastic sheet that covers the door. It's messy because it is attached with a black tar substance.

Second, I used WD-40 sprayed in to a shop towel to clean the outside and inside of the track from top to bottom (as best I could). The grease on the track was sticky and old, which I think is what causes the window to move slowly/stick.

To re-lube the track, I used excess grease that collected on each side of the white teflon slider that attaches the window to the regulator track. There is a recess on each side of the slider that I believe was meant to be the "reservoir" to continuously re-lube the track as needed. Just over time, it hardened somewhat. I just smeared some on my finger and ran it up and down the inside and outside of the regulator track.

Window now runs much more smoothly. It still rocks forward/back more than I want, but I could not figure out how to impact that issue.

what you want to use on the tracks is white lithium grease.
