Power and torque potential
Ok, here's another question: how much power and torque can a 3rd gen engine make reliably?
I mean reliably for road racing applications. I've heard that you can increase the boost to get well over 400 hp, but the engine won't live long if you run it hard, as you would on a road course.
A 3rd gen owner at Lime Rock told me last fall that he and everyone else he knew with a 3rd gen car had tried going for the big numbers, but they all blew their engines eventually. I think he said he was now getting about 360 hp reliably.
Does that sound right? Would the power peak still be at 6500 rpm, and redline at 8000?
How much torque would the engine make if tweaked for max reliable horsepower, and what RPM would the torque peak be at?
