Power steering bearings

My car was making a weird rattling noise when i revved it, so got my girlfiend to rev it whilst i stuck my head over the engine - the PS pulley was moving at least 10mm from side to side !

Pulled the PS pump yesterday (what a b*tch) and at least 5 of the ball bearings are missing from their seat with no sign of them ? So my question is :

1. has anyone else had this problem ?

and

2. the bearings must be replacable - does anyone have a part that will fit ?

its either that or £600 at my local Mazda dealship (or a pump off a wrecker)

bearings

Hi, I had the same problem....the dealership wanted $1000.00 for a new pump. I took the bearing to a local Advance auto parts store. They had an exact match for less that $3.00. What a difference and "problem solved". I'll try to find the part name and number for you but I'm out of town right now.

Same problem here. I ended up buying a used p/s pump from someone else. Dealer wanted $1,000! WTF!!!! Crazy bastards!

BTW, the bearing looks to be pressed in to me. I don't see how it can be replaced. I could be wrong though.
