Damon, It would be nice to how a "mostly stock" car compares.

2.6 is very fast. Hard to believe that it is all in 3rd gear, which is how this test is supposed to be done.

do it in second gear and just run it to 8k. you should get faster times that way.

I retested after replacing the plugs, wires and ignitio harness. Very similar temps.

Again I got 4.0-4.1 seconds.

Since then I now have the precontrol working. I am curious to see what that does to the time. I'll update when I get in a run.

This is the test Mazda have in their workshop manual to check how well the car is performing, isn't it? Always thought it wasn't an accurate reflection of this, 'cos you get to around 5.5k at 70mph in 3rd (?), so the 2ndary turbo has only really started to work. So how can you judge how well the car is performing?

But for the fun-factor of trying the 40-70 for simple comparison with everyone elses......then its great! I'll try to get a timer from work and have a go......car is stock, by the way. Mind you, the roads are wet and there is snow in the air, so I may not be doing this tonight!

OK had a go with stopwatch:

3.51 and 3.6(slight uphill).

Well impressed with that! I double took at the first figure! Did it again....so it must be right!

Completely stock 2002 SpiritR
(but with big bloke (me ) driving and full tank of petrol - don't know how much difference that'll make if someone lighter was flooring the pedal and with a low petrol level?!)

I did another run after installing my 'new' low milage twins. I worked on getting better precontrol. The datalog recorded several 3.8 sec runs rolling 40-70, starting at 35 mph wot.My boost is mostly in the 11.0 to 11.5 psi, but I do get a peak of 12.7 psi during secondary boost. Even though intake temps were 5-8 degees C warmer today, the car did it 2/10's faster.

I'm using aTurbo XS manual boost controller because my WG control is whacked. I'm curious which gives smoother boost control manual or electronic?

i know my 80-110 time is really fast like less than 4 seconds. And thats in 5th gear i think. I check with stop watch and make sure. O wait heres some interesting info from my rx7 book. Car and driver did a top gear 50 -70 test with the 92 vette, 92 300z, 93 fd. The fd was fastest with 7.5 then 300z(8.3) and vette(10.1) test was done in 5th gear. Thats a good example of the fd kicking some ***

great... an essentially stock block can handle near 800HP, most supras with T-88's are pushing more than 550wheel

I find using a stop watch can only get you with .3 seconds accuracy. Video is a little better because is helps eliminate some room for error. Dataloging at the same location is the best way to test when looking for anything beyond halves...3.5,4.0,4.5...etc.

Another blast from the past - sorry but there is no way in hell I can hit 140mph anywhere within a 20+ mile radius where I live. I'm gonna try this tonight and post my results!
