Possible reasons for over heating
Im 99%shure im going to buy a 1993 montego blue very mint body and interior. The only problem with the car is it over heats it has 80k miles it probly needs a rebuild but is there a chance it could be something else?
If it overheated more than once, the rotor housings are probably warped. You prolly don't know "how far" it overheated. Was it shut down at the first "low-coolant" idiot light/buzzer, or when the temp needle climbed above horizontal? You're taking the seller's word on it. I'd be sketchy. Get a compression check done before plopping down the cash, or negotiate an engine price in the deal. If the seller refuses to go in maybe halves on a comp. check, I'd walk or have him knock off at least 4k.

DUDE!!!!
5K??? If the body is in good shape, and the suspension is ok, GET IT, AND GET IT NOW! The factory rebuild costs 2K, and will last a good while. It will take 1K to have the engine swapped. Just make sure the turbos are up to speed. New ones go for something just under 4k (yes, the turbos are more expensive than the engine they are attaced to.) I haven't got a price on rebuilt turbos, but make sure that it is from a reputable shop. Good luck!
If it overheats, obviously first check for leaks, and to see if the coolant level stays solid. If you are ok there, then it could be your thermostat (check this!!!!), or a clogged radiator. Its probably your thermostat if you are ok on the other stuff though. A broken ast cap would cause you to boil over, but then you wouldn't pass the "steady coolant level" test. Something wrong with the engine would also cause you to loose coolant.
