Possible to leak from stock y-pipe itself?

I've always noticed just before boost my turbos are "whiny" from the passenger side of the engine noticable through the vents, the couplers are ok and I moved them around etc, still hear it... is this normal or could there be a leak where the ypipe connects to the outlets/rear half itself?

Is your boost guage indicating a drop or is it just the sound? I had a similar sound that developed some years back, shortly after I bought my car. It was either my cheap guage at the time or the leak was slight enough that I couldn't see it on the guage> It ended up just being a cheap worm-gear clamp that went bad and would slip. The fix was obvious.
I think I've also heard of the OEM plastic cross-over tube developing cracks near the ears where they bolt down, but I would think that would be pretty obvious if it was causing your noise/leak.

tubes look ok, no boost gauge (i just connect it when i'm having trouble)

i did cut hte stock airbox and install a downpipe though, maybe it's making me much more "aware" of the noise

Yeah usually that little 3" coupler which attaches the y-pipe to the crossover tube can leak.

Also, there's an o-ring between the y-pipe and the back half that connects to the turbo. Have you recently taken that out? If you did, check out the o-ring, might need replacing.

Mine started doing this after I installed the Adam C intake w/K&N filter. Had to cut the stock air box. I think the airbox is not sealing properly with the K&N due to the shitty design of the clamps on the airbox. Therefore the whining noise when air is being sucked into that part

Before I changed to the 99 y-pipe. I would split the plastic one right at the bolt strap on top of the engine - went through 3 under warranty

I think i'm going to block off the turbo inlets and feed 12psi of regulated air through the UIM to check for boost leaks, anyone else had success with this method? prolly need key turned to on to keep CRV closed?

dude holy ****. How many things can possibly go wrong with your car? Like 40 threads in the past week, shawn get this **** straight!

Before you start feeding pressure to stuff, why not just swap it out with another y pipe, its only a quick swap

Pressure testing is an EXCELLENT idea - more people should do it. It's a quick, clean way to find leaks, and I've been surprised at the leaks I've been able to find this way.

You notice more noise now that you've cut the box open because the box is now cut open. In stock form the cross piece between the airbox and the intercooler duct acts as a muffler. Once you cut the stock box open and provide an alternate air inlet that you can hear all sorts of new sounds.
