Is it possible for a car to run with a 25.3 AFR?

OK, I just installed a Techedge wideband unit (1.5) into my car, and it seems rather messed up (it was used). But it idles at 25.3 AFR, and when you rev the engine (I did around 5000 RPM's) It won't change until it gets back to idle, and the injectors go from 0% duty (from commander reading) to the standard 7 or so % duty, at which point the LCD screen on the wideband reads 10.5, then 14.5, then back to 25.3.

Also if you cover up the light sensor on the LCD screen, it goes straight to 10.5! And when you uncover it, it goes to 18.5, then back to 25.3..... WHY???


My power FC is untuned to... And it will be tuned soon, but I'm trying to straighten out the wideband unit first

Something's way not right if if you cover the light sensor and it changes the AFR's. It's possible to have an AFR that lean, of course, but there's no way in hell the engine would run on it.

Make sure you don't need to do a free-air calibration or something on the sensor, and that it's fully immersed in the exhaust stream. If it's reading open air, you'll get false lean readings.

No way a rotary will run with that type of a/f ratio but I believe the Honda Civic VX can run that lean. The fuel is swirled around the plug so it will ignite.

It's acctually just showing a 25 and symbol because it is running leaner than 20 AFR according the their online owners manual.


I've got it hooked up to the cigerarett lighters power, which is 12V, and enough amps. And the web page says nothing about calibrating the unit... Along with there being no buttons, or anything on any part of the system.

OK, aparently there is a recalibration something in the plug of the wideband sensor? Does anyone know how to recalibrate it? I don't...

Also, when the sensor is cold (for about the first 60 seconds the car is running.) the LCD shows 14.7-14.8 ARF's, but once the red light on the CPU of the wideband kit turns on, it goes over 20 AFR's.... And when the car is just turned on, without it running it show's the same 14.7-14.8 AFR's.

There is a link to the 1.5 Owners manual. The only thing I don't have hooked up is the RS232 Logger cable, and that's because I'm not logging anything.... Does that have to be hooked up, if so, what does it go to?

OK, maybe the wideband sensor it's self (it's a used NTK L1H1 sensor), because, if you take the CPU of the kit apart, it can be calibrated, and only two parts were more than .02 volts off.... We re-adjusted one to the correct setting, and the other (being the wideband sensor it's self) is 1 volt off, and that's as close as we can get it to 4.0 volts (were it is supposed to be.)


This woiuld cause the problem, correct?
