Is this possible?

I don't want to start another this vs this flame war , but I got a wierd one. I have this kid with an 2002ish F250 Supercrew talkin **** to me, yes the big pickup truck F250. From what I can tell its obviously Supercharged, hes got it lifted, and its not a dually. The only "mods" I can see are gauges going up his pillar. He has alot of chrome on it and normally runs 36" tires. Now, recently he said he'd race me for 200 dollars, and I am just curious about this. I told him I would, but that dosent mean I will, yet. I noticed he got nervous today and took off the big 36's and put on some chromed stock rims, the truck still has alot of ground clearance. My car is basically stock, besides I opened up the intake by taking off that goofy box that splits the intake, and its a very pampered car. Is it really possible for him to beat me, and worst case scenario say he has all the mods in the world and NOS...possible? I dont know to much about diesel besides they have alot of torque. I'm about to buy a Power FC and 200 dollars could be really helpful, but losing it would not be. Anyone know anything about these trucks? The only thing I found was this

easy, schedule the race for after the Power FC and the tune... then take him to the cleaners. (that way you get your Power FC and a $200 winner rebate).

he'll get you on the start (they are 4WD right?) and you'll haul him back in as the speed rises.

A well modified F250 can easily smoke a stock RX-7.

Again...WELL modified. Also remember that his truck is most probably automatic and he won't have any problem getting a smooth launch.

Turbo Diesel trucks can be made quite fast for little cash.

mmmmm, ok, i have no experience with there obviously as i am in NZ!
you need to find out how fast he is before you go for it... see if a friend can race him (no money) and benchmark the performance.

course, racing for cash is generally not a good idea... a missed shift could cost $200.

Depending on features and trim, here's what his truck is like stock:

Weight: 5777
Power: 260
Torque: 350

It's going to be racing in RWD, but since it IS 4wd, it still loses power in the transfer case. I'd bank on him putting 210 or so to the ground if he's stock.
He's lost an advantage in aerodynamics by lifting the beast.

You're around 2700 lbs (depending on trim), around 260 FWHP (Or did we get the 275 here? If I'm right, wasn't that only 95 up?). You're less than half his weight, and equal power. Do the math yourself

I'd say take the money and run with it. No way he'll win. I mean, hell, the FASTEST truck on that list was scraping 13's.

I could use some free money, I've got $0.5K on your FD!

I'm deep in this crap with trucks. I have a 2000 Dodge 2500HD 4X4 Cummins 6 speed. Mine is only moderately modified. I'm putting ~310 h.p. and ~660 lb.ft. to the ground.

Mine is a) modified for awesome towing (and man does it ever kick *** when towing), and b) slow as crap with a 6 speed trans. I think I'd be doing good to run a 15 sec. quarter. With my manual, I run in the 9's 0-60 in 2WD. Spinning in 2nd & 3rd (1st gear is a creeper, only used when towing). It might get to 60 mph in the 8's in 4X due to all the spinning in 2nd & 3rd. I've also got to run 2nd, 3rd, 4th, AND! 5th gear to hit 60 mph. To get to 60 mph in 9+ seconds, that's slamming long throw gears pretty quick (shifting at ~2,800 rpm It defuels (stock ECU) from 2,800 to 3,300 redline loosing hp). Also, my truck plum empty except a full load of fuel is 7,130 lbs.

Even if your FD is stock, you would blow me away. A laughable race.

HOWEVER, his 6.0 (even stock) with auto tranny will be quicker than mine by a bit from stoplight to stoplight. Although his is lifted, I may take him due to my gearing advantage. Too close to call, or I'd lose is my bet. I bet his truck is well into the 6,000 lb. range.

I'll add $500 to his bet that you'll smoke him too. Once you get 5,000 rpm under you in an FD, you will start pulling him and walk away from him in 2nd and never look back.

The only way he's going to beat you is if he has SERIOUS engine mods (it can be done). But from what it sounds like, he's dropped all his money on SHOW, not on GO. It takes a fair amount of money to get a lot of GO from a 6.OhNo.

Ask him how I can get in on that action!!!

Race him, pocket the $200, grant him a rematch later on if he wishes and come back and tell us all about it. Better yet , a vid

First of all what does this 'race' consist of? 1/4 drag on the street? Any race where you will be going over 100mph you should win regardless of his power output [to a reasonable point] due to his aerodynamics. Running 15lbs in your rear tires and a good launch you should be fine. I personally would find out what he has first, he knows what you have [or don't have] probably. If someone knew how fast my car was and still wanted to race me, that is an indicator something is going on.

Turbo Diesels can be made VERY fast, but it costs. Simple bolt ons and a retune can net upwards of 100hp and like 300lb/ft (I think?), but even that wont allow him to beat you. I read a whole write up of a guy with a dodge TD, he dumped MAD cash into a full rebuild and a custom twin turbo setup, running a max of something like 56lbs of boost (larger of the 2 turbos was off of a semi/tractor), and I doubt that truck could beat an FD...but I have no experience with that, so dont take my word for it.

On the flip side, a friend of mine was at the local drags and a guy with a heavily modded Dodge TD ran in the low 12's... :/

the way he talks leads me to believe he has a bottle, but Im not sure....but nobody knows **** about FDs. They ask if its turbo, and I say twin and this is the normal response...
"oh so it is turbo, wait, twin turbos? like 2 turbos? no way"

So you posted a vid of a truck beating a non turbo nean and then getting beat by a 220 horse power WRX. Yes the WRX won you can tell at the end.

Go beat the truck and take his money. My best friend has a 05 250 with a lot of mods and lifted just like the one in the pic. It is fast, but no ware near a FD.

If by oil you me diesel, then yes. Generally, a good running Cummins consumes very little if any motor oil. Mine does not use a bit. Mine looks exactly like the one in the 2nd video that's blue with "Grrrr" on the front plate. I'm a member of DTR as well. My truck is way more than stock. I've got my power for about $800. I'm at the limit of my stock clutch. I have always targetted reliable power. That's where I'm at. I'm actually starting to slip my clutch now.

If I go with another clutch, I'll get one that can hold 1,000 lb.ft, then I'll throw more fuel at it. Hahaha. The red and white dually with the pipe out of the hood on the drag strip was HVAC's truck. He died a while back. A great guy.

Lastly, there's a video of a Ford F250 or F350 that's had a Cummins swap. He's racing at the drag strip against a 2nd Gen RX7 (if I remember). It's amazing. I think I have it and will try to post it.

Still, I doubt your buddy's truck has anything serious for you to worry about, but I wouldn't run one that blow's heavy black smoke, and can launch in 4WD.
