If you define "rice" as something that's just for looks or effect, but does nothing for performance. Like maybe... side-skirts? Nothing necessarily wrong with that I guess. Or is there?

Well BOVs are functional...these expensive ones (some) may work a bit better than the stocker (in taking higher pressure) etc, but the rest is just for show really.

As for sideskirts, see this thread for more on how they're functional: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/sideskirts-areo-help-all-looks-328318/

^I think you missed my point. I thought "RX 4 Speed" was being a little harsh given his interest in side-skirts from a previous post.
But the analogy, I think, is still good. After-market BOVs might aid performance if your running alot of PSI over stock or every fraction of a second in response counts, just as side-skirts would aid in performace if you traveling over 120 mph. For the most part though, both are for asthetics. But I don't consider either one 'rice' in the sense of huge wings, decals or underbody lights.

I feel you. Although I think large wings have their function too along w/ those skirts at that hypothetical 120mph

Well i can see both sides of this issue now, i dont think i will go vent my BOV, i'll just leave it alone. I still get into my friends car and i'm not sick of it yet (bov sound) but i'll live without it for awhile, i do need to get other stuff first like radiator and the racing beat exhaust. I also need to replace the stock IC. Well anyways......

Just thought I'd post this thread that Mahjik pointed out to me in another thread. Even thought mazdaspeed93 is only interested in the sound this is still relevant to the bov argument. An aftermarket bov will have the same effect as the modified bov described in this thread...

Blue REx you said it right before I could. Even though they say it is arguable and people want dyno numbers. I'm sure its true that a higher spring rate will bring a change in feeling when it comes to boost lag. And don't worry mazdaspeed93 your not the only youngin out there with vented BOVs and an FD THough....I got my FD with the damn things already vented....But still none the less I enjoy the sound as well. Just like I enjoy the sound of a nice low rumbling not too loud nor too damn farty exhaust, its just one of those car things. Everyone loves the tone of a nice exhuast. Just like people can enjoy the sound of thier bovs and the spooling of thier turbos or even the back fire of thier exhuast when down shifting right before a corner. Things like should really be likea well orchestrated concerito to tuners I would think.... no?

Dont change your mind because of what the haters and rice police say - its your car - do what makes you happy.

I would just vent your stock BOVs. Sounds better than the aftermarket ones I have heard anyways.

Uh yeah, instead of watching a movie, just go play a game...much more mature, right?
