Question Porting new 13BTT-some Questions

I ordered a new Mazda 13B engine for a friends FD.
I'll do a Streetport on this, a few other mods will follow
(FMIC, PowerFC, 1300ccmSecondaries, upgraded Fuelpump, pettitracing modified 98spec Twins and some other goodies..).

Questions:

Can i reuse the water o-rings and other seals?

Partial-, mild-, wild- or race-Streetport?

How about Hurley-Apex-seals, Longlife
or Race(2mm)?

I've forgot the diameter of the nut to loose the flywheel, its 54 or 55mm? I know i've got no nut like this.

Other recommended Mods on engine-parts?

Adding Hylomar only in the water-O-ring grave or on the
entire surface?

Knowing there some dumb questions for someone who wants to do this work, but its over a year ago that
i rebulded and ported my own FD's.
I'll be happy for some helpful answers, the project starts next week.
Thank you all! Greets Mike

I can only answer one of your questions for sure: the flywheel nut is 54mm or 2 1/8"

The streetport type depends on your goals for the car... obviously there are advantages and disadvantages for each type of port. You should read up on this and understand what you're doing before you peform the work.

I assume you could reuse the coolant seals, since the engine is new.

Thanks for your reply paw140!

I made a BP on my FD and it runs well with ~320rwhp at 0.9bar. But everybody sees that its not street legal.
Mi friends FD should reach 400rwhp and as legal as
possible...

Think i'll do a big streetport on both ports and orde the
Hurley racing tips.

More opinions?

Most people seem to like the stock 2MM lately as apposed to the Hurley 2MM or other 3MM seals. Apparently even though the Hurley seals are stronger, the stock seals still give a better seal.

I suggest get new o-rings and seals.
Just put a thin layer of Hylamar on the o-ring grooves. It's just for keeping the o-rings in place when you move stuff around or whatever.
I'd go with a big street port. Might as well.

Thumbs up

Wow, these answers were fast!! Thanx!!

I prefer the hurleys because they won't destroy the housings and turbos in case of breakage, or am i wrong?

They bend instead of exiting the motor right? I'm pretty sure you are right

Yes, from what I understand, in case of breakage, they do not cause as much damage. But I from what I understand, they don't allow for as much compression as the stock 2MM seals.

I can't find the post now (might have been lost with the forum problems), but there were a few people who had used Hurley seals, only to go back to stock 2MM on their next rebuilds (to achieve more power).

Keep in mind I'm only speaking of what I've read, not what I've done.

a lot of the people that went back did it because their engines were popping prematurely. the seals werent doing so well.
